Who else has no presents for their kids tomorrow?

If she didnt have the money before christmas she wont have it after. Just keep it simple and play with your kids.I grew up in a house of eight kids the littlest ones never recieved gifts.Its ok your not a bad mom.I couldnt afford christmas either.Havent since 2007 when I spent every dime I had for cancer treatment and unfortunately again this year for the same. The kids will understand trust me they love you YOU are thier greatest gift.

It is a real shame that the middle class has gotten so beatened up in this lousy economy that they can no longer afford to buy Christmas gifts for their own kids. A real shame.

OP is saying no gifts for the kids because there is no play set/fort AGAIN this year.Many kids donr have an expensive play set but it sure doent mean they got no gifts.To many places that give free toys and clothing and bedding sets for any kid to not get something.
Maybe OP needs to figure out there are less expensive gifts to give kids.

Christmas doesn't have to mean store-bought presents. It could mean a humble picnic at a park or free playground with parents who're actually interested in interacting with their children

and parents who genuinely interact with their children are able to explain to kids the facts of life, the situation with family finances and make it ok for those kids

Lots of families give up their own Christmas day in order to volunteer their time and energy to the less fortunate, thus teaching kids to give rather than 'get', and in the process those children forget about 'presents' and take pride and joy in sharing their day with those who really are less fortunate than most of us

Drive behind a mall or store and get some free boxes. Kids usually love a great box fort more than the presents anyway. Tape them together, cut out windows, let them decorate it. Even better you have the fort all ready to go for them.

i havent read all 5 pages but for anyone in this same situation go to a goodwill, explain the problem, you can get toys CHEAP, no they might not be new but at least its SOMETHING, better than NOthing. i tried explaining this to a mom who refused and would only buy new stuff, well her kids got nothing cause she couldnt afford anything, if it worries you that much bring the kid with to goodwill, they will find TONS of cool stuff, they dont mind as much as you do, chances are itll be broken and in the garbage in a couple months anyway as poorly as things are made these days

Dollar Stores are everywhere. Coloring books, construction paper, crayons, markers..even reading books for almost nothing. I know a lot of people that are doing that this year.

I find it hard to believe how many people are bashing the OP.
Nobody knows their situation, maybe they got hurt at work, maybe they lost there job. Many reasons are out there to be broke. OP could go to a church or something I know a lot of them will help. Give them a hug and make them a card or make them something from whatever.

I remember one year I was about 10 and I didn't get gifts. Mom was sick, had to travel for treatment, so I had to stay at my Dad's house.

It was delivery pizza for Christmas dinner. Not very festive, hardly any remnants of Christmas except for a small tree with a few ornaments I put together.. No gifts that year.

I didn't vocalize how upset I was, but it was a real let down. I just wanted something, anything, to act like a token for the holiday from my dad; a little token of thoughtfulness and love. The next day Dad took me to the store and bought me some boots. I pretended that was my Christmas present.

Give your kids SOMETHING for Christmas. Even if its cheap, its much better than nothing. Show them you thought of them.

(I'm a lurker.) I don't have gifts for my kids. I probably could have taken some money and bought a few things, but I'm finally irritated enough that Christmas is so commercialized that I decided not to buy anything. I don't want to buy shit for my kids just because society dictates that I must do so. I'd rather buy them things when they need it and when I can afford it.

So this year, I cheerfully told them I'm not buying Christmas gifts but I explained that we would have fun making food and playing games.

My kids are a little older than yours, but I've had to explain the facts of life to various kids at younger ages from time to time, and I learned that kids are smarter than we think and more resilient than we realize. Also, it's all about your attitude towards the "problem."

One of my older daughters said to me once, "You made poor seem like so much fun." (We were always out of money and food when I was going to school but stupidly procreating at the same time.)

So make this "fun" for them.
