Who else has no presents for their kids tomorrow? | |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 30819407 12/25/2012 02:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've done the best I could bu still I could not come up with the money for gifts. So they are not getting the play set / fort they wanted again this year. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14577918 We are all alive & healthy, but that's hard to explain to a five & a seven year old. Anyone else? (I'm a lurker.) I don't have gifts for my kids. I probably could have taken some money and bought a few things, but I'm finally irritated enough that Christmas is so commercialized that I decided not to buy anything. I don't want to buy shit for my kids just because society dictates that I must do so. I'd rather buy them things when they need it and when I can afford it. So this year, I cheerfully told them I'm not buying Christmas gifts but I explained that we would have fun making food and playing games. My kids are a little older than yours, but I've had to explain the facts of life to various kids at younger ages from time to time, and I learned that kids are smarter than we think and more resilient than we realize. Also, it's all about your attitude towards the "problem." One of my older daughters said to me once, "You made poor seem like so much fun." (We were always out of money and food when I was going to school but stupidly procreating at the same time.) So make this "fun" for them. This sounds just fine. I think its very good you explained it to them and they understood. Its great of you to keep up the Christmas spirit and still make it a special day. Merry Christmas to you! |

| Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 14577918 12/25/2012 03:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok I let this go on long enough. I kept this going because I saw so much good come from so many people here. I did not mean that I had no presents, but I had no big presents like the ones on their wish lists. I use to make really good money but now I don't. We became parents when my in-laws both died and their adopted son came to live with us. We bought a bigger house in a safer neighborhood. Five years later CPS called us & our family grew to five. I want to build them a cool fort because I can't afford one of the $1,000 ones. I however can build about anything from anything. I work part time for minimum wage so I can get them on the bus and meet them at home again. When I tell a perspective employer that I can start tomorrow but I can't be in till 9, and have to leave by 3:30. They tell me they can't use me. These boys mean the world to us & we are just trying to save as much of there childhood as we can. Yes we have nerff guns, puzzles, and games under the tree, but no bicycles, scooters, footballs, or a fort. We will read from the bible, open presents, make home made cookies, and drink hot coacoa tomorrow followed by a nice dinner. Look, I'm not trying to get them cars, or jet ski's but this economy has tanked. The work force is flooded. Almost everyone has a college degree. I figured there were many of you out there that feel the pinch & are saddened by not being able to give your kids at least one thing the asked for. Btw I have not emailed or PM'ed anyone about this. I don't pay for cable, I only have a 15" tv since my five year old did a flip into it when he first moved in with us. I don't smoke and I only occationaly drink from a bottle or two I keep at the house. We don't eat out, and we never go to bars. Hey, like the rest of you I eat a lot of ramen noodles & I save the flavor packet to have broth latter. I can stretch a dollar. God bless you all, even the mean judgmental spiteful ones. MERRY CHRISTMAS, Every One. |

Can't give your kids Christmas but you can search for pitty on GLP. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29808532 ^^ This. Searching for pity and a kind heart to offer to wire him money or send an expensive fort to his house--that he can sell for half the cost to pay down his Christmas credit cards. |

Sorry I have no computer. Only a first gen I-pad that is wi-fi only. Thank goodness for free wi-fi. Again I do have presents under the tree. Many others do not & I can understand their situation. |

MERRY CHRISTMAS, Every One. My suggestion is, be honest with the kids. Less reading in the bible, more explaining the story of christmas and economy. They will understand. The message is always love. The new playstation is just because we are all so happy if our kids are :D Merry christmas. It doesnt need any religion to celebrate love festivities. Put the bible away, god is elsewhere ^^ My rights trump your fucked thinking. - Trinity |

I have news for you people - your train was derailed by the big banks and their political cronies, who had NO problem having you poor SOB's bail their ass out, but when it comes to your neighbour or friends?? It's COMMUNISM! All you can do is turn on each other in blind ignorance, while your banker and corporate masters laugh all the way to the bank at your expense. If you're honestly that willfully blind and stupid, you all deserve what's coming. Merry Christmas! |

Anyone else? Great occasion to get back to basics..give them love..and teach them love..that love is the gift..not things The amoun t of money you give or get..or prezzies you give or get cant and shouldnt represent how much you love someone..like I said in the other thread Love is so precious..it cant be translated into things..its a gift itself..just put a big pink bow around your head..do a little dance..and say..hey I am your gift this year..this is my gift for you..the love I will always feel for you..no shop can ever sell this..and no one else will have this exact same present as you..because its for you and just for you and give them a big hug and a kiss.. Matthew 16>18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.. Peter was crucified..on Vatican Hill "Thou shalt not kill" does not apply to murder of one's own kind only, but to all living beings; and this Commandment was inscribed in the human breast long before it was proclaimed from Sinai. ~Leo Tolstoy You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? ..Immanuel ,The Christ (Sermon Of The Mount) “WHAT YOU DO TO OTHERS YOU DO TO YOURSELF FOR THAT IS THE LAW..AND THE PROFIT" ..) Preach the Gospel at all times..and when necessary use words.. St.Francis Of Assisi.. Anyone else? Thinking of my child hood, some of the things I enjoyed the most were big brown boxes (like washing machine size). I made this into my own fort, or base, went inside it, it was a spaceship, a den etc etc When you are a kid your imagination is limitless, toys are quite limited and soon get boring. But a box, it can be anything. Nothing was stopping you making a fort out of some paper mache too. |

We had to move from our more expensive apartment to a cheap one in a bad area! where I live we don't have programs for christmas for low income families (if we do I don't know how to access them due to the language barrier.. yeah I'm an anglo in Quebec) A few special angels made Christmas happen for me this year and I cannot thank them enough! otherwise my kids would have had nothing but a few dollar store toys under the tree. Think before you rip someone apart, most people are doing the damn best they can. |

Might as well throw in some paintball gear while you're at it! Most normal "poor" kids get a $20 gift from Walmart and THAT'S IT! If they can't be happy with a box of cereal and a comb, YOU have failed as a parent! |
