So they are not getting the play set / fort they wanted again this year. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14577918 We are all alive & healthy, but that's hard to explain to a five & a seven year old. Anyone else? How many years have you been offering this play set/fort to your children? How cruel of you to bring their hopes up only to crush them. (again this year) I doubt they have asked for this gift. If they have, you should've been honest and told them you can't afford it. I think you're after a hand-out. They have asked and while a handout would be cool, it is not what I'm after. I'll post more when I get to the end of this thread. Ok I let this go on long enough. I kept this going because I saw so much good come from so many people here. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14577918 I did not mean that I had no presents, but I had no big presents like the ones on their wish lists. I use to make really good money but now I don't. We became parents when my in-laws both died and their adopted son came to live with us. We bought a bigger house in a safer neighborhood. Five years later CPS called us & our family grew to five. I want to build them a cool fort because I can't afford one of the $1,000 ones. I however can build about anything from anything. I work part time for minimum wage so I can get them on the bus and meet them at home again. When I tell a perspective employer that I can start tomorrow but I can't be in till 9, and have to leave by 3:30. They tell me they can't use me. These boys mean the world to us & we are just trying to save as much of there childhood as we can. Yes we have nerff guns, puzzles, and games under the tree, but no bicycles, scooters, footballs, or a fort. We will read from the bible, open presents, make home made cookies, and drink hot coacoa tomorrow followed by a nice dinner. Look, I'm not trying to get them cars, or jet ski's but this economy has tanked. The work force is flooded. Almost everyone has a college degree. I figured there were many of you out there that feel the pinch & are saddened by not being able to give your kids at least one thing the asked for. Btw I have not emailed or PM'ed anyone about this. I don't pay for cable, I only have a 15" tv since my five year old did a flip into it when he first moved in with us. I don't smoke and I only occationaly drink from a bottle or two I keep at the house. We don't eat out, and we never go to bars. Hey, like the rest of you I eat a lot of ramen noodles & I save the flavor packet to have broth latter. I can stretch a dollar. God bless you all, even the mean judgmental spiteful ones. MERRY CHRISTMAS, Every One. I have suggested an unpin. I think you are a liar, and a cheat. Merry Christmas to all Children across the Universe. |

Growing up as a child (military brat), things were not as they are today for the military. Yes housing was free, medical was free, but as a kid you did not pay attention to these things. Not sure how many grew up as a child in the military, it was the culture, seemed like every weekend some party at someones house, many of Friday or Saturday night the parents or babysitter main concern when it came to us, was shut up and go to bed. During those days every Christmas was lean, too much partying by the parents. |

This May I was diagnosed with cancer and had my uterus removed, but since have had a lot of complications. My husband lost the job he had so he could help take care of the kids while I recovered. We had no money this year. It's hard when children don't understand. They get it, to an extent, but yeah..you don't realise how much things costs. Even to make something from home, the crafting supplies costs money. Cheerios costs money, everything does. Unless you can make your own glue,(We make our own paint, that's fairly easy ..but no idea how to make glue). Luckily my in-laws are amazing and paid for all my kid's christmas gifts this year, but one day I will repay them. I know that sometimes it's hard and people that have never been there don't understand. I did print off coupons for free babysitting for my in-laws that recently had a baby, as well as a full body massage for my husband(and a few other fun coupons). That is free, and for all the "coupons" I printed off for my family, it's all for things that I offer..my time. I hope they'll appreciate it, because it's all I can offer them right now. Quoting: Ad Lib Kids are generally happy even with lots of little things. If kids are expecting exactly what they want or expensive gifts I guess they would be upset. I have 4 kids (all grown now) so I had to make do with what I had. They never had a horrible Christmas, always made it fun with making stuff, baking, etc. They did get gifts but I never went over the top. I didn't want them to think every year was going to be a gift extravaganza and I didn't want the message of the season to be lost with all the material stuff. OP I am truly sorry your kids have nothing for Xmas. I see that other posters have pointed out that there are lots of programs, charities, etc. that could have helped you out, not sure if it's too late. Also, I can't stop thinking about all of the little children that died in CT and how their families are truly having a horrific Christmas. ..."The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts. They were actually more concerned that they had too much and told the volunteers it was okay to add an extra item to the kids' wish bags. Remember this for next time. Rule #1: "People are stupid. I'm making a wonderful Christmas for my sons, though, in ways that don't cost money. For my older (17) son, who is in his first year of college, I had saved all of his favorite tee shirts through the years as he outgrew them - from Pokemon to Star Trek to funny math geek tees etc - and I cut out the beloved designs and hand sewed them into a quilt for his dorm room bed. I think he will be so surprised! For my youngest (15), I printed out a bunch of photos of us through the years and made him a little homemade book with a list of 100 things I love about him. My boys know that times are tough, and that I am providing for them the best that I can. We will eat a yummy spaghetti dinner today and go for a nice walk. I know they will love their gifts, and I'm betting they both made something for me, too. Merry Christmas, everyone!
