Just got back from the Hobbit 3D
I'm not huge on fantasy movies but I really enjoyed it, and thought it was worth the extra money for the 3D.

Re: Just got back from the Hobbit 3D
Definitely! I'm surprised there has been so much hate regarding this film..
Yes the CGI could have been better in a few sequences maybe and it would be nice to change a few things (no movie is perfect..), but in general the visuals were STUNNING. Some really beautiful scenes.

If any fans of Tolkien's series are still on the fence about seeing it due to its criticisms I highly recommend checking it out yourself, I was pleasantly surprised! hf

Re: Just got back from the Hobbit 3D
It’s been a hard “Hobbit” to break.

Movie-goers continued their quests to the multiplex to see “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” propelling the prequel to “The Lord of the Rings” to the top spot at the box office for a second weekend in a row with $36.7 million.

It wasn’t an entirely magical stretch for director Peter Jackson’s return to Middle Earth, however, as the movie dropped 57% from its opening weekend. But the movie is still racking up its horde of treasure - it's expected to pass the $500 million mark worldwide by Wednesday, Warner Bros. executive Dan Fellman told the Daily News.

Spamming the for the Hobits, eh?
I see what ur doing. Gotta get the grosses up due to a slow spending trend in the markets with all this Fiscal Cliff news. That's funny.
Today on an economic based news story I hear tell spending is claimed to be the same as last year for "Super Saturday (The Sat. before Xmas)."
After the newscaster stated, "some are claiming this but we won't really know until the numbers are in." She said in reference to the claim that number are said to be the same as last year, "And, we all know that's not good!"
She further went on to explain that, "Super-Storm Sandy and the fiscal cliff nonsense," yes she actual said, "fiscal cliff nonsense," are causing people to spend less. So, I xan imagine it is not a good time to release a Super-Big-Blockbuster of the Season either.
Spam on Brother, spam on. lol

Re: Just got back from the Hobbit 3D
Stretching one book into three movies is quite a liberty. Jackson relies heavily on other Tolkien writings and a lot of the published works by his son Christopher, to provide fill-in for three movies. I like Jackson's creativity, but I wish for once someone would put the book on the screen, as close to true narrative as possible. Especially with Tolkiens' works. A good story shouldn't have to rely too heavily on special effects.

Was it CGI heavy?
That will bite them in the ass later.

The problem with CGI is even if it is state of the art today it ages very badly.

Graphics that look amazing now will look dated in just a couple of years.

It's a vicious circle as better graphics mean audiences "learn" to see the flaws in older CGI.

But practical effects, models etc don't age like that.

Look at the first Alien movie, that flick was made in 1979 and the ships, effects, the alien itself still look awesome.
Same with the original Star Wars.

Then look at a show like Babylon 5, pretty good CGI at the time for all the ships, but today it looks laughable.

I predict a big return to practical effects in the movie industry.

Like Nolan, man when he wants to flip an 18 wheeler truck, he just gets an 18 wheeler truck and flips that motherfucker for real.

Oh yeah, was the Man of Steel trailer played before the movie?
