My son learned to shoot with a Ruger 10/22 at age 5. By the time he was your daughters age he was proficient with an AR-15. By the time he was 10 he could hit a pop bottle at 150 yards with a .270.

Teach your daughter that there are evil people in the world. A tool is not evil. Show her how to overcome fear an how to defend herself.

Teach her how to love and show compassion and mercy, and to overcome evil. A tool is nothing to be scared of.

Letting a child develop their own fears based off of news propaganda is shameful. Your encouraging negative self-talk with-in the child at a extreamly young age. This can be extreamly detrimental to the child and lead to habbits of thought.

Overcoming the fear of imagined risks is one of the keys to successful human relations and it is just a imagined risk, no amount of her worrying will change anything.

You need to nip it in the bud and put in it realistic perspective so she does not worry before you end up with an 8 year old “adult” who lost a childhood.
