Wizard's First Rule User ID: 1026045 United States 12/25/2012 01:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I went to B&N the other day and they asked if I wanted my purchase gift wrapped and I said 'no, I bought it for me.' LOL Wizard's Rule #1: "People are stupid. Given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. People will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool." Primordial Rule: "The rule unwritten. It is the secret of all life. It is the essence of life itself. You are a creator and master of your own reality. You ultimately make your own rules." Call it what you like, but I don't see it as "buying into consumerist bullshit". OP, I get that feeling. You don't really "need" any gifts, but getting nothing from anybody never feels good. I agree that you should talk with your mother about it. 1 (or 2) people just forgetting or not buying for whatever reason happens, but everybody? Seems like there may be some underlying details. |

There is a 2 year old that lives in Atlanta, Ga. who just got the pieces of his skull glued back together. He has been in the hospital for over a month now fighting for his life. He was a very happy and wonderful little boy. His only crime was that he was playing under the wrong tree when the tree branch fell and shattered his skull. Even the newscaster cried while reporting the story. His name is ,Tripp Halstead. Google him and get on FB and encourage his parents. This will take the attention off of yourself and you will feel better. You will also make little Tripp's parents feel good too! Turn this day around Op. The computer is not just for receiving. Use it to give a little something back. |

I am willing to give you one, a stranger and fellow GLPer to another. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18535219 That is very nice of you, but I kinda wanted something from my family since i do so much for them throughout the year. And especially from my sons. One owns a fairly successful Apple Ipod repair store and the other is pulling in 6 figures as a sales manager for a car company. I figure since I struggled so hard to get them raised and to make them successes instead of drunks or lazy slackers they would at least appreciate it enough to get me something. If even a cheap card. I am unemployed and struggling bad right now and I spent $50 each on them. I am very hurt over this. I was their only parent. I gave up my 20's and 30's to be a full time dad. I gave the best years of my life in a celibate attempt to create strong, successful, well adjusted, decent men. It is not like I wanted a new car or tv. A stick of gum would have been enough, and I can't chew gum because of my dentures. I am sorry your kids dont respect you but heres a great big Christmas hug just for you |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21000351 You are not the only one.The worst thing beside no gift is a gift that shows you how much the person didn't care.I gave birth 5 days ago,my husband got me a $1.99 eyeshadow...If he wanted to tell me that I look like shit 5 days after birth, the least he can spend some $$$ on good cosmetics..O,well...not gonna cry over this.Felt like crap, but at the end,you and only you have yourself |
Alexander User ID: 15635858 United States 12/25/2012 02:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I stopped relying on other people to give me gifts way back. Mainly because they often got me something I didn't like or didn't want. So each year I always go and and get what I want for myself first. No resentment, no worry and I'm completely satisfied. Now I'm at an age where I really don't need or want anything. Go figure. That is other then a good massage. These aching muscles could do with some time in the sauna and rub down. And just for the record - even though I gave my kids gifts they didn't get me anything either. It is a bit sad when they turn out like that but it's their problem not mine. I don't expect anything from them. You see. Christmas is about loving- not presents. Just hanging out with everyone is the best present ever. The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. Winston Churchill Daily Updates Thread: ASS IS IN THE WRINGER - Rolling Updates from 11/16/20 to present (Page 316) |

People use family as an escape, the only thing that matters is yourself. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22151483 We don't all have shit families. You obviously do. And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it. CowgirlK User ID: 30594215 United States 12/25/2012 02:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It’s a tragedy how people base “love” on what is or what is not bought for them during the “retailer guilt days of adding to the end of the year bottom line” I also understand how horrible giving and not receiving feels. But, I have learned over many years to give from the heart and expect nothing in return. It’s all about the joy of giving. If you give a gift, only to expect one in return…..you will most likely end up being disappointed and angry. In reality, all the material stuff that people buy means nothing. You can’t take it with you and you wouldn’t want to take that crap even if you could. For those of you who are hurting or suffering because of the way you have been treated, be grateful that you have your health and the money to buy stuff for those ungrateful people. Just put them on your “naughty" list for next year and don't waste your time, funds and effort, ….unless you want to. Merry Christmas! |
