I always thought the sign was cool (and still is) but Ophiuchus (or Serpentarius) is just so much cooler. Ahh well, until it gets officially recognized. Quoting: Master X ophiuchus is the space between orion and turus the bull. he is the serpent above them. and a point in the sky that you can look up and find the the center of the zodiacal belt. nothing more nothing less. So how does one go about doing the astrology for Orion? Quoting: Dr. Greenthumb I am close in about there. What dates make a person an Orion? I know in my heart I'm an Orion, the sign before Taurus, but I can't actually PROVE it. So how does one go about doing the astrology for Orion? Quoting: Dr. Greenthumb I am close in about there. What dates make a person an Orion? Orions not a zodiac sign. its the constilation of a man look it up on the hubble telescope sit in his heart is were stars are born. and on his foot he has the planet sirus which is our suns binary star. our sun and that sun dance in the cosmos in tandum with eachother. this is why its so prevelant in our lore and history its a big deal when you dont have tv to watch every day. | Anonymous Coward User ID: 16729015 01/05/2013 07:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There's a confusion here. There are two Zodiacs - the sidereal (star-based) Zodiac, and the tropical (equinox-based) Zodiac. If it's *astronomy" we are talking about, then the sidereal Zodiac applies, and that includes all the constellations across which the ecliptic (path of the planets) pass in the sky - and that includes Ophiuchus. If it's *astrology* we are talking about, then the tropical Zodiac applies. The tropical Zodiac does not involve the constellations at all. The basis of astrology is not "stars" (as is usually assumed) - it's based on the equal divisions of the ecliptic into twelve - and to distinguish that twelve from astronomy's twelve, astrologers refer to them as "Signs" rather than "Constellations". Why twelve? Because twelve is a special division result involving (a) division into two (subjective/objective), (b) division into three "modalities" (cardinal, fixed and mutable), and (c) division into four elements (fire, earth, air and water). These combinations together go into making up the chart's twelve-fold space - as counted from the zero point Aries (which at the moment is partway through the constellation Pisces - thus our current Piscean Age.) Another 140 years or so will see us leave Pisces and enter Aquarius, though we can see the glimmer of that Age already - same as the Essenes saw the "mist" of our present Piscean Age, 2150 years ago). So, in astrology, Ophiuchus and Orion don't apply. Ophiuchus only happens to be the constellation which currently protrudes into the tropical Zodiac near Scorpio/Sagittarius. |
