The book goes into far much more detail as to the motivations of all involved and explains in clearer terms that the aliens involved were supra-physical beings (if you want, beings of energy/light) having evolved passed the physical, becoming if you will gods of their own right. The Monolith out at Jupiter is 'triggered' by being uncovered on the moon, thus starting the whole lifting up process for the creatures on Europa (All these worlds are yours, except this one...) That takes place in 2010. 2001 leaves us with mysteries which are supposedly answered 2010. In 2001, David Bowman is the sample of humanity that is sent back and observed/examined and fast grown to death, and he is reincarnated as a working being for these godlike beings to return to earth to assist in telling humanity what is happening with Jupiter (2010). Sadly, the movie missed a lot of the points that can't be conveyed other than book. On the bright side, the whole movie was as realistic as possible for every space scene, from weightlessness to the fact that you do not immediately explode when faced with the vacuum of space. Considering that there was no CGI in the day, the artistic value may be lost compared to today's films where CGI is used everywhere. "My Dog, its full of fleas!" -David Bowwow “A paranoid is someone who knows a little of what's going on. A psychotic is a guy who's just found out what's going on.” - William S. Burroughs |

Quoting: Attention Humans 1483106 All Heil Space Nazis! No more half cast sub-human Obama! No more immigrants, nor more of what you don't like! All Heil Space Nazis! Kind of funny cause theres a scene where one of the spacecrafts has a german flag on it. Former Nazi Werner Von Braun was the one who built the Saturn V rocket that took us to the moon just one year later after this film was made... Stanley Kubrick is jewish too... |

In this case, to understand the Clarke "vision" of evolution you should read another book, "Childhood's end". |
