Contrary to popular Hollywood stories where people grieve fully and completely nonstop for days, weeks, months - the reality is that actually compensate and put on a happy face and plop onward trying their damnedest to at least act like their world is normal.

Normalcy is very important to people who have lost a loved one, actually normalcy is important to everyone no matter the situation.

Laughter, joking, humor and lots of other non-grief-like emotions are displayed by people in shock as well as while grieving.

This is why some people laugh at horrible things - their mind basically can't handle what they are looking at and they find a away to 'deal with' the circumstance.

So if there are parents on a video who just lost their kid in a horrific manner smiling and laughing it falls well within normal parameters of human behavior.

The one thing I've struggled with regarding the smiling parents is this; if you just found out your child survived a mass shooting after getting a panicked phone call and racing from work to the school, is it not possible that you might be happy and/or smiling? Some of the parents may not know the full details at that time and would be mostly concerned with their child.

With that said, I'll quote the mom and say "this doesn't seem real.
