I think I was much too smart to fall for it as a kid. I remember the kids at school telling me Santa wasn't real, and it sounded fishy to me. So..I did some investigating when I was 6. I compared the handwriting and wrapping paper of my mom and Santa, and presented all the evidence to my mom. I told her, "look Mom, it's clear that Santa is you." ..and she laughed and said I was too smart and still every year she tried to keep the "magic" of christmas alive..my brother and I would oblige her, but it was more for her than it was for us. I was never mad about it or upset..I knew that my mother just wanted us to feel like there was more to this life than heartache and hardships. We had a rough childhood and it was the one time of year that my Mom didn't feel like a failure for being a single mom and us having no fathers around.
