I am only concerned about chat histories going into court logs because those are personal conversations which are reasonably expected to be private. The fact that Facebook is not giving those up automatically shows that Facebook is protecting its users and that our legal system keeps our name out of civil matters unless it is required by the courts.

They can have my friends. They can have my browsing history. They can have the posts that I make publicly on profiles. These have no expectation of privacy.

You guys are complaining because lawyers are being discerning when making arguments regarding expectations of privacy. The prosecution always demands the least privacy, while the defense always guarantees the chat logs are private because there is an expectation of this.

The government can access your chat logs, but who cares. It is not like they are reading every single person's chat logs. They are reading people that the government views as threats.

But let's be clear. The reason this is in the court record is because this is all PUBLIC STUFF.

STOP SAYING YOUR PRIVACY IS INVADED WHEN THIS IS THE PUBLIC RECORD THAT YOU PUT OUT THERE.

Maybe because I rarely use Facebook and I'm not a criminal, but who cares? If anything it can prove where an innocent person was at a certain time.

For example, this guy was in jail for 6 months until he remembered his train pass, which logs when the card was used. Innocent guy set free.
