Oh yeah now the're going to label people who aren't active on facebook as potential serial killers.

Don't have more than 100 friends? Probably a serial killer.

Likes violent games? Serial killer.

Picture holding or shooting a gun (unless it's military). Serial killer.
 Quoting: krosty

Never had "homepages" (if people remember). Never had Friendster. Never had Myspace. Not corporate for Linkedin anyway. Never had Facebook. Never had Twitter. Never will have whatever bullshit social media site comes out next.

Why do people post their personal info out there on the web along with slutty photos?? Makes no sense.

Yea, and how does that protect you. They're just using a script to create a social network site like the thousands of others. Social network is pointless and useless.

This shouldn't come as a big surprise to anyone really.

But if you are surprised, use this as a vehicle to further understand the (potential) consequences of what you post on the web.

That is why you should avaid using 'free' email gmail, yahoo.com, etc. you are giving them the right to scan your emails and use them. Pony up and pay for one that doesn't reagan.com is the first to come to mind but there are others.

Do not use google or other search engines as they track your IP address. One called startpage.com does not track you.

Use Https rather than Http when visiting websites.

Simple stuff that takes a bit more effort.

Or you could live like the amish, they don't have much info on them in comparison to people trapped in the matrix by Birth Certs, Social Insecurity Numbers, Zip Codes etc.

The Boston Phoenix’s recent article on the Craigslist killer uncovered something very interesting in it’s research into how the web hunt for the killer was conducted; something neither it’s reporters, or the general public, had never seen before: The full results of a Facebook subpoena.

This is some scary stuff; for the first time, we can now see EXACTLY what Facebook sends when the Police, or a judge, ask them to hand over your information (view the full file here): [link to superchief.tv]

The majority of this information is public, with the exception of the browsing history. Just access the Facebook API and you can obtain.

If there is a warrant, not sure what the concern is. No different than telephone, mail, email, internet usage, whatever.

And this is news to whom?!???

In reality it goes way further to the point that they can track WHERE you click with your mouse on their pages.
And what texts you highlight during your visits..

The very page you are visiting right now is possibly part of a profiling program. Or could be, therefore you should be on guard at all time.

One simply doesnt sent all their aquintances pictures of private moments but the internet shifted the reality so that they are now called friends and sharing is hip...

That's why i only use facebook to read other people's stuff on my time line (i think it's called that).

I never post anything. I never click on 'like'. I have my account filled with fake information, except my name.

All they could find if they request this about me would be that i like to play games on facebook. Good luck sifting through hundreds of messages about some stupid fucking game.

This is a good reminder, but in all honesty? It doesn't really mean anything. Should circumstances change to where authorities want you for one reason..legitimate or not..or another--they're going to find an excuse. A speeding ticket could get you nabbed. They don't need a real reason if they want you bad enough.

Paranoia only serves to imprison yourself. Facebook in malignant..is there anyone alive that still doesn't know that? Even so..it doesn't really matter.

If they want you? They won't need your internet history to get you.

Yes, don' t have a Facebook or Twitter account. ... If one wishes to avoid possible surveillance, then one has to avoid using most of the standard forms of communication.
Newer technology also permits the 'overhearing' of landline phone conversations without interrupting or interfering with the calls.
This is why cell phones (among other electronic devices) are not permitted within secured areas of government buildings where classified information is discussed. If one wishes to avoid possible surveillance, then one has to avoid using most of the standard forms of communication. Before becoming concerned about it, though, one should take a moment to analyze whether one's communications are likely to be a target for interception.

If law enforcement wants you they will take your entire computer. Which in most cases would be more incriminating than stupid facebook friends, wall posts or status. If they want you, you are up the creek without a paddle with or without facebook help.

"He says that the government has collected all of the communications of congressional leaders, generals and everyone else in the U.S. for the last 10 years.

He further explains that he set up the NSA’s system so that all of the information would automatically be encrypted, so that the government had to obtain a search warrant based upon probably cause before a particular suspect’s communications could be decrypted. But the NSA now collects all data in an unencrypted form, so that no probable cause is needed to view any citizen’s information. He says that it is actually cheaper and easier to store the data in an encrypted format: so the government’s current system is being done for political – not practical – purposes.

He says that if anyone gets on the government’s “enemies list”, then the stored information will be used to target them. Specifically, he notes that if the government decides it doesn’t like someone, it analyzes all of the data it has collected on that person and his or her associates over the last 10 years to build a case against him."

This article seemed to indicate that there's No Such Thing as Privacy on the "internets/intertubes":

[link to www.nytimes.com]

"It took me a few days to work up the nerve to phone William Binney. As someone already a “target” of the United States government, I found it difficult not to worry about the chain of unintended consequences I might unleash by calling Mr. Binney, a 32-year veteran of the National Security Agency turned whistle-blower. He picked up. I nervously explained I was a documentary filmmaker and wanted to speak to him. To my surprise he replied: “I’m tired of my government harassing me and violating the Constitution. Yes, I’ll talk to you.”"

Remember this movie?

[link to www.youtube.com (secure)]

It doesn't seem so 'fictional' anymore... All this was based of the fears and justified from the 9/11 incident...

However when you listen to this other whistleblower about the lead up to that, and the folks that wanted it, and benefited, it just seems like something big was unleashed on us all, based on untruths, where now all these actions seems eerily similar to the infamous saying: "...the ends justifies the means" in a very twisted way...

I am sure the GLP here knows a bit much more about the whole "problem -> reaction -> solution", where in order to bring about the "solutions"...
