They were poor and it was the Depression, and it worked fine.. My grandmother was one smart lady. She had a million home remedies, and maybe it's time I tried a few out. This included. |

I know rinsing ones mouth out in warm salt water kills bacteria in the mouth. My Irish Granny said they used to use coal & bog turf soot before toothpaste was cheap enough to buy. The Hare Krishna lot use this natural Sandlewood toothpaste, but I found it yukky & abrasive. I must get a new electric toothbrush, they work wonders too. I'm getting new upper top teeth over the next six months (still waiting after all this time to get it done for free on the NHS), 4 titanium implants/bridge, but still wanna take care of the rest of my teeth. Thanks for the tip! ![]() |

Your mouth feels amazing and you can go for days between brushes (lol). Been doing this for years and I will never EVER go back to toothpaste. The alkalinity and extra oxygen also make the good bacteria thrive while killing the bad bacteria (which causes plaque and gum disease). The advantaged good bacteria keeps killing the bad ones after the brush. Both bicarb and H2O2 are excellent cancer killers / prevention, so the small quantities absorbed in your mouth can only be another good thing. Some poster says fluoride hardens the teeth... well it is a very very thin layer and it prevents your teeth from regenerating & re-enamelizing. Yes, dentists are taught the opposite (AFAICT), but your teeth can fix itself if your diet is healthy and you don't interfere with the process by covering your teeth with one of the most poisonous substances on earth! If your teeth are getting soft, there is something seriously wrong with your diet. |

Quoting: Biscoloco Bobs has good stuff! I have his wheat germ product I love it!!! Isn't it baking POWDER that might have aluminium in it? Baking soda is just NaHCO3, while baking POWDER is a concoction that includes baking SODA. |

That was around the time when 'The Keyes Method' (Dr. Paul Keyes) was being touted as a alternative to gum surgery for patients with severe periodontal disease. I switched to baking soda & peroxide and have used that for years. After a few weeks of using this process it will be very difficult for anyone to switch back to various toothpastes. The was another thread (here I think) touting the anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of coconut oil. When my next shipment of coconut oil arrives from Puritan Vitamins I'm going to add that to the baking soda / peroxide mixture for improved consistency and the above mentioned benefits. Toothpastes have sweeteners and flavors as well as the fluoride that, to my mind, impart a false sense of cleanliness in the oral cavity. Take the challenge, switch to baking soda and peroxide for 2 - 3 weeks and see if you'll ever want to go back to commercial toothpastes again. |
