Some of our baking soda supply comes from a couple of mines in Colorado and Wyoming. Some is synthetically made using soda ash in water and carbon dioxide treated to produce a solid.

Thank you! I learn something new every day here! I want to add especially never to mix bleach and ammonia! Those are a huuuuge no no. I'm amazed how many people have mixed the two with disastrous consequences trying to create a super cleaner. I don't like bleach I'm allergic and I never use it but if I did I wouldn't mix it with anything.

That inspires me to keep at it! If you guys find this useful in any way that makes me happy!

I'm always experimenting with natural remedies and trying to find cost effective solutions I'll make some more threads!

Great thread! Keep the good info coming! I used to chew tobacco and have used oil pulling to help nurse my damaged gums and teeth back to health. Works great!!!

My mother brushed her teeth with baking soda daily, and never had a cavity - that's "never..."

Bought us kids regular toothpaste, as we hated the baking soda... Lot's of cavities!

Now, I take Mom's advice and use the baking soda. I have sensitive teeth (due to Sjogren's), but it doesn't bother me at all.

I need to get serious about oil pulling since my gums bleed every time I brush my teeth and it's not the baking soda it started way before I started using it. I want to reverse this while I can. I'm glad you found a wonderful natural cure!

I'm going to try really hard to stick to oil pulling again. My problem is I wake up starving I forget to oil pull and then I eat something and you are supposed to do it first thing in the morning before food water and even brushing your teeth.

What oil do you use? I'm unsure which one works the best out of olive, sunflower, and sesame. I've heard people give a worthy mention to coconut oil for oil pulling but it's expensive and goes quickly and I enjoy eating it by the spoonful and putting it in my chai tea haha

Also, you guys make sure the oils are not "toasted"

similar to what I use: almond oil, peppermint, spearmint oil, coconut oil and a small bit of oregano oil.

I gargle as needed with H.P.M. by heritage foundation.

And it nullifies cancer cells. So if you chew...

oil pulling's the best! I add a drop or 3 of oregano oil to the sesame oil I use for oil pulling.

Great story! I am a true believer in baking soda! I love the stuff! Maybe it does prevent cavities or there is something in normal toothpaste that causes them.

My teeth are extremely sensitive and I like the mild tingle it makes me feel like its working haha

Do they have oregano oil in the regular grocery markets? Or is it a specialty item? Does it aid in cleansing?

I take a few tablespoons and add drops of water until it forms a paste not too clumpy not too watery then I lightly sprinkle sea salt on top.

that shit makes your gums recede, been trying to avoid that shit but they put it in all the toothpaste now

I tried to abandon fluoride toothpaste during 4-5 years listening to GLP advices, I only used baking soda and salt.
I got rid of my migraine BUT my teeth started to decay and became yellow, baking soda did absolutely nothing and I got pretty much f:ing damage after stopping to use high quality toothpaste. Like it or not fluoride HARDENS the teeth by a chemical reaction (electron exchange, see wikipedia).

THIS advice (abandon regular toothpaste) was my greatest GLP mistake!

Also, my gum was bleeding during the non-fluoride periode, I admit that I now use expensive fluoride toothpaste, I managed to put my teeth in better shape but now I should pay big money for the damages.

When my teeth softened after not using fluoride my fillings/around them started to erode, all of them, and now I can't pay tens of thousand of USD for the repair (I visited a dentist for calculating a cost), to listening to the advice to abandon flouride toothcreme is probably the worst mistake I ever made during my time (9 years) on GLP.

At least you have to use a herbal toothpaste with alcohol and good ingreadients. Our lifestyle won't allow abandonment of a hardening fluoride paste but one has to use it very carefully, not swallowing it.

Something else could be to blame for your teeth softening.

In fact acid erosion softens teeth. They don't soften on their own because of a lack of Flouride that is ludicrous.

Do you drink a lot of fruit juice? The longer it sits on your teeth the more damage it does. I try to always rinse with water after every glass of juice or consuming anything acidic soda is one of the worst.

Baking soda is alkaline btw

I'm not trolling.
I a veggie since many years and my teeth was OK as long as I used fluoride paste. I always felt that when I use fluoride paste my teeth "felt harder". I don't want to burst your bubble BUT studies shows that fluoride toothpaste using dramatically reduced caries during many decades, it's a scientific fact proved in laboratories with experiments. (I saw a documentary once that why I say this)

I say it as a new age guy wanting to avoid poisons. The problem here is that fluoride hardens the teeth BUT it has a by-effect when it enters the body tissue. It's a balance thing, maybe many others have stronger teeth so they can abandon toothpaste. I wish I could do the same but I just try to not swallow it while it keeps my teeth in shape, I admit that I have pretty weak ones.

I still use baking soda in my mouth wash for the alcaline effect but alone it won't work for me, so it's a friendly warning here.

I didn't view your message as trolling. I just wanted to make sure you covered all bases before making a final decision on your stance on baking soda. It's far too often I see people demonize a particular thing because they didn't understand it, used it incorrectly, didn't follow directions, thought something was to blame and it was something else, etc. I just ask that you make sure. I know not everything works for everyone. I meant no offense to you and I tried to read your post with an open mind even though it conflicts with my view.

There are already three pages of replys, but as a chronic bulimic, I can attest to the fact that baking soda is really a miracle. So simple. My teeth arent yellow or eroding yet, and I've been sick for a few years. I like to mix a bit of peppermint essential oil into the mix as well, and then let the moisture evaporate as much as possible before use. Good luck! Commercial toothpaste is poison! =^.^=

It's seriously nasty stuff. My skin turns red if I'm exposed to it, I wound up with blisters on my lips using white strips, my stomach felt like I had indeed swallowed poison, when I have breathed it in I have nearly passed out my vision blurs and I cough up a lung. It's a poison for sure and I avoid it like the plague. I can honestly say I discourage the use of it for anything it is very destructive there is always a safer and healthier option
