OK lets get real here. Nobody has actually laughed at the Big Bang Theory on TV right?

Urgh, I can't stand this show! Makes me cringe every time it comes on. And notice how everybody who defends it mentions that it is a show for 'smart' people? HA! More like a show for people who desperately want to appear smart.

I cant believe people consider it (BB) at all funny=and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER=fuck-SEINFELD is funnier than both of those and IT IS LAME!

I never understood how anyone could find that show funny either.

I couldn't sit throw a show of it, but I tried watching some clips on youtube that got a lot of responses, and couldn't see ANYTHING funny about the clips. They were boring, and it is just SOOOOOO scripted to the point I can't relate to any of it, and none of the characters seem real.

I actually agree 100%. The show isn't "smart" at all. Just having bland, scripted, dry characters crack jokes that have physics terminology in them doesn't make a show 'smart' by ANY measure.

Now i LOVE How I Met Your Mother.

That is one of the few shows on TV I actually find HILARIOUS. The last few seasons aren't that great, but try watching Seasons 1-4 and tell me it isn't one of the best shows on television. Barney is awesome.

In order for something to be comic it has to relate to real life. If you can't identify with it it's not funny. Situation comedies anymore are nothing but a continous half hour of one stupid wise-ass remark after another plus canned laughter. I can't relate to any of it . It's mind -numbing drivel to keep the masses in a state of hypnotic stupor.... and it's working.

Oh yes please, more vagina worship disguised as humor, and of course the obligatory lame puns based on muons and gluons.

Thanks OP--it's about time someone started a thread like this. Everything you've stated is right on, which makes me also wonder if there is a conspiracy behind the "popularity" of the show.

A few folks were raving about the show at one point and I thought maybe the material was going over my head. Tried watching it again and I couldn't even break a chuckle. The laugh track follows every other sentence and this really drives me nuts because I just don't see what is so hilarious. Smart comedies don't need to abuse laugh tracks the way this show does...it's like they put someone on crack to manage the laugh track.

Whoever said Portlandia was funny is right--their parodies are waaaay more thoughtful and relevant.

Arrested Development was smart comedy, but (of course) canceled.

Seinfeld ruled. Loved the irony and sarcasm.

Flashback to the 90s: The Fresh Prince and Saved by the Bell were funny in their day. This was my pre-teen and teen days so humor felt a little different then.

I cannot believe a group of writers got together and someone or group actually said

"hey we can have an Indian guy, a Jew, dig up some lesser known child TV stars and put them in an apartement living room and just have them say stuff! Mr Writer, you go on the internet to ebaums world and look for decade old memes for us to recycle as prime time jokes. Ill go find a hot girl who wants to have a role on a prime time show... This is going to be SOOO funny!

I KNOW I could write comedy better than ANY asshole currently writing for network TV and would do it for a fraction of what they demand - and Ive never even tried writing comedy!

Its like the writers dont write for people to really laugh, just write words for them to cringe at when it gets delivered hopelessly by our "funny" actors. Sort of like the accident effect where you cant look away.

In fact if anyone knows a bona fide writer who finds this script funny, I would like to challenge them to a blind test to see whos script is better.

It would actually have to be a newtwork TV script writer because they are the worst. Seems like lesser known writers might actually be funny.

Who can set me up this contest? Cmon who knows any of these clowns who write for these "comedies" on prime time TV??

Id love to prove to their bosses just how much they suck at being funny. But something tells me the bosses know but want to keep actual funny jokes under wraps or something.

Find me that unfunny writer or writers so I can exploit them and maybe saave this country from unfunny sitcoms comedies!!!

The Big Bang Theory was mildly interesting at first because the humor was sort of intelligent (at times) and the "geeky" characters were the heroes. All the jokes used to be at the expense of the blonde.

Somewhere along the seasons that got flipped around and the geeks became the ones being joked on. They also keep going back to the same tired jokes over and over... in true Chuck Lorre style. He takes something that gets a few laughs and then drives that same "bit" it into the ground... with a sledgehammer.

He also holds a hell of a grudge.

A lot of people come here bashing this or that, thinking they could do something better than the "pros".

Pass this thread on to your writer friends and see if they want to submit a short comedy script versus mine. I gaurantee I will win!

I have never even written in a script format either.

My challenge awaits and I will check back often to see if a supposed "funny" primetime sitcom writer wants to prove his worth.

Note that we have had an example of this already. Our tall funny guy beats his freind at chess. The chessboard happens to be a multi leveled unique board. He says "I just be you on so many levels". Is this the "intelligent" humor you refer to?? Because that isn't really intelligent.

If people actually want to get a laugh from that show, the writers should switch the laugh track with crickets chirping. Sureit might be a gimmick that gets old quick, but it would be much funnier than anything that has ever happened on that show!

OOOOOH!!!! NOW I get it!!! You, all of, what? 19? 20? and maybe a high school drop out, don't have a life, and cannot figure out what the comedy on this show is all about! A bunch of super-smart college degreed professors who don't really have much of a life, but laugh at the rest of the world for their "regularness," none of which any of them possesses or understands.

If the show is over your head, go watch Family Guy, 2 1/2 men or some other reprobate thing....there's plenty of TRASH on TV these days.

The "comedy" of this show is the "Nerds trying to fit into regular world" vision, sorta Jr. High/High school-did-not- fit-in types trying to get along in the world, and are realizing they are "different" than regular guys, and what are they missing, all the while not wanting to give up their nerdy, weird, Star Wars/Star Trek, comic books, nerd toys etc.

Geez, dude, if you're too stupid to understand the show, JUST DON'T WATCH IT.

1) 'Fatboy' only got slim this season. I will agree that last season was awful. This season is hilarious. 'Pop-Pop: The Final Solution' was an awesome episode.

2) Futurama is a great show.

Come now, let us reason together. While the multisyllabic spouting of the cast of BBT border on glossolalia, even a show like Sunny in Philadelphia can reduce you to a choking fit with the most horrible tongue in cheek snarkiness imaginable.
