| Anonymous Coward User ID: 19706474 12/26/2012 05:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A new strain of MRSA has been found in British milk, indicating that the superbug is spreading through the livestock population and poses a growing threat to human health. The new strain, MRSA ST398, has been identified in seven samples of bulk milk from five different farms in England. The discovery, from tests on 1,500 samples, indicates that antibiotic-resistant organisms are gaining an increasing hold in the dairy industry. The disclosure comes amid growing concern over the use of modern antibiotics on British farms, driven by price pressure imposed by the big supermarket chains. Intensive farming with thousands of animals raised in cramped conditions means infections spread faster and the need for antibiotics is consequently greater. Three classes of antibiotics rated as "critically important to human medicine" by the World Health Organisation - cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones and macrolides - have increased in use in the animal population by eightfold in the last decade. Quoting: peace 29091069 [link to hisz.rsoe.hu] Its why my father in law became a vegan after the war he died LST year at 82 but had remain a vegan for some 50 or more years. He always said any super bug would come from this and that the stuff they put in farm animals isn't fit fornhuman consumption |

| peace (OP) User ID: 29091069 12/26/2012 05:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The superbug can cause serious and occasionally deadly infections in humans and is becoming a cause of mastitis in cows [4][5]. The high level of antibiotic resistance makes this infection difficult to treat, and the Cambridge scientists say their finding is therefore ‘of significance to both veterinary and human health’. Recent Dutch research has shown that people living in rural areas of high livestock density are also at increased risk of becoming carriers of MRSA ST398. This found that a doubling of the density of cattle increased the odds of being a carrier by over 75% [10]. Occasional hospital or nursing-home outbreaks of MRSA ST398 have also occurred in the Netherlands, showing that the bacteria can spread from person to person. [link to animal-epidemics.blogspot.nl] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29093157 Yes. How do you think we become immune to them? secondly.all milk is pasteurized. so how the fuck does mrsa survive that process?? Remember Mad Cow or BSE, the prions that actually stick the brain and cause the damage, we're found to be able to withstand proper sanitization techniques at the time and would stay on the slaughtering lines. So how does that work? thirdly why do we use milk again? Because we love drinking milk b/c we drank it from nipples as babies and cows have 4 nipples...? You really cant blame our historical genetic lineage when he or she noticed this and came across the docile milk bearing animal aaaand said to themself.. sure why not, i'll try that. Thats the best I gots. |

It tasted pretty horrible to drink, but I wonder if it's a safer bet than the others. I might start using it again (If I can find any on sale). In the beginning was the Word.
