Re: Bet You Didn't Know: Christmas
I don't care.

Dude I'm an atheist and I like Christmas, it's a cultural tradition of the west, it's a time in the depths of Winter that is full of light and fun.

It's a time when we can get together and exchange tokens of affection with loved ones.

Christmas is about far more than it's origins or religious trappings, it's a beacon of warmth during the bleakest time of the year, it's a community thing, where towns and cities all seem to be happier and more friendly.

Even people like Christians who use it to mark the birth of their messiah know it's not likely to be his actual birthday.

It's just a time of the year that we agree to use as a marker for all these things.

So... :P

Winter solstice celebration.

Why all the lights? Because the sun went away and we're not sure when it'll come back. (actual reasoning, of course we know now, however we didn't back when the winter solstice tradition was created - and back then they had shamans who put shrooms in trees, then people festivally partook in consuming these shrooms and proceeding to trip their balls off - birth of the christmas tree)

People can believe what they want. But people's beliefs say a lot about them. People that decide to believe it's the birthday of their saviour? Fucking idiotic belief. What does that say about the people? Either they are ignorant or wilfully ignorant.
