Now, if they pair it with a 3D scanner, all bets are off; ANYTHING that would fit the scanner and printer would be easily mass produced.

watch for being locked out of 3d modeling programs and a mega host of new laws and persecutions to come before they roll those out because then you could fix all your things that are made of shitty little plastic parts that are made to break as soon as you use them, so the entire object becomes useless as all hell for no reason other than sell you another model and a higher price
also they will start stealing all the plastic so you can't recycle your own for raw materials and make that illegal

then they will have them in stores where you are banned from using your own designs and forced to pay mfg. for parts designs a child could draw

and then there will be an underground black market and the war on 3d
then drone strikes and alcriada terrorists blowing up 3d printer users
cause they alread had the prototypes before the year 2000
where are they?
in a bank vault while they figure out a way to make it work to their advantage only or tesla them out of existance
but its too easy and they will come from china as cheap knock offs that dont do what you want and break down before you get your moneys worth

last time i checked 3D printing couldn't make food, water, clothing, a house, or any of things that actually would be a world changer. more useless plastic shit is NOT a game changer ¬_¬

Actually, there's a huge revolution brewing in Food Layered Manufacturing that will change the way we think about food. It's not really practical to "make" water and there's already tons of stuff that does a good job rendering it potable. Clothes and houses will be produced with 3D printers, and they don't just pump out plastics: there's titanium, aluminum, steel, bronze and many other types of materials that can be printed, and soon they'll be able to embed electronics and mechanical things in the objects thanks to advances in materials science (graphene, etc.) and, obviously, the innovations taking place in the field we're talking about.

Just to back up what I'm talking about with some real-world proof, since I too get sick of all the people on this site who talk out their ass.

3D printed houses:
Imagine 3D printing on such a large scale, using a concrete-style material, that could “print” a house in as little as 20 hours. Oh, and that material can withstand over three times the PSI force of standard concrete walls. There can even be larger versions, with multiple “print heads” for use in construction of multi-family dwellings like apartment complexes.

3d Printing is a major shift in everything we do. Esp for places that are not on the "normal" supply chain, such as AK. Cost of shipping makes things harder to obtain, if we can manufacture local and on demand, this changes life.

So, the really useful 3 D printers cost over 300,000.00 right now.

Something tells me, because it's happened with every world changing tech to this point, these will be antiquated within a few years.

Ahhh, I can remember playing Pong on my Atari like it was yesterday.

Tech has come far since then... By the time you see a PC in the store, it's already obsolete, the newer model is already on a ship and the newest model is being manufactured, while the new/new/newest is in the prototype stage, all at the same time.

Wish I had money to buy a decent model right now, I'd still get a lot of use out of it before it became an Atari.

It's been around for over 25 years and is not good for much. It's used for prototyping but the parts are rarely good enough to function. it's nice to see what a part will look like sometimes. Just google stereolithography. It is an old technology that in another 25 years might be good for something but my guess is something better will come along.
