Ok, here is my story. I've been sitting for an hour trying to decide if I should post this but here it goes.

I use to own a small business but my father got sick, had a stroke and then we also found out he has cancer. He was living in another state than me.
I closed my business and took a little money I saved to by a raggedy fixer-upper near my father.

I just got married in June, and my spouse and I live in the house I bought for next to nothing.

Problem is we don't have the money to fix the house. We don't have heat and we use a large plastic tarp to try and keep some of the cold air out. Our bathroom doesn't have a sink or a real floor. Also we do not have a kitchen. And to make matters worse, part of the roof started blowing off due to hurricane Sandy.

I just got some really old kerosene heaters from a neighbor because our electric bill is so high from running some space heaters to keep warm. Just got the shut off notice.

Even though all of that is really dim, the real problem we are having right now is that our house tax bill is due by monday (the end of the year). We don't won't to loose the little piece of house we have.
We are young and we are trying to do the right thing, but the cold is really taking a toll on us.

If you think we are worthy Brief than we would truly truly appreciate your help.

Hello, I'm a stay at home mom of three (they're very little children, so it makes way more sense for me to be here with them at this time...saves us way more money by having home cooked meals, only one vehicle, daycare expense, etc.) Just thought I would emphasize that before someone tells me to "get a job" haha, Also my husband is in the telecommunications business so our cable and internet are a courtesy job perk. Anyways, the reason for our need :)

First, I would pay the $95 left for the month for our rent. We shorted the landlord, but pulled off a MAGICAL Christmas with a mix of new and used gifts for the children :)

Second, my 6 year old washer decided to stop working Christmas Eve Eve...my wonderful husband has it all taken apart downstairs and thinks he narrowed it down to the water pump and belt, which will make the total parts $75. If this fails, I would use the rest of the money and find us a decent used washer (I would be so sad, as I really love this washer we bought new...I feel like we have a bond haha).

If you have children, you know how VERY important this appliance is in the household. But having that streak of survival in me, we've been making do.

Lastly, if there is any left over...I will spend it on groceries!! Can't have enough :)

I would really love to be included in your choices please. I am a single mom with 2 boys and unemployed right now. I'm in the same boat as many with no job but I am also having an extra bit of problems finding one because I actually raised my children for 17 yrs being a homemaker. Toward the end of our marriage we lost a couple of kids due to death and then next thing you know my ex and I got divorced due to to much stress and pain.

Now I am trying to find work however its not so easy for someone who has a long period of not working outside of the home and I have a lot of skills. I continue to look and hold out hope for someone to hire me but the only two jobs I have had since this happened where both seasonal and temp and right now I could really use a little extra money.

Anyway Thank you so very much for caring about people. Its people like you that make this world a wonderful place, even when there is doom a foot.

FYI most states split the property taxes in half. First half not delinquent till April or May, second half in the fall. Did you pay cash for the house, can't get home loans on crappy fixer uppers, at least not around here.

I feel for you, cold time of the year. Another trick to stay warm is put a tent up INSIDE of your house. Not ideal but will keep you a bit warmer. Water pipes tend not to freeze until low teens or single digit weather, I know that from personal experience. I hope the info helps you.
