I already posted yesterday on trinity's tread but i will try again. My Father died a few days ago from cancer and he was only 44 years old . Right now im 20 years old studying Engineering in DIT Dublin Institute of Technology and i would be happy if you would give me some money as i have to pay for his funeral. Even a few bucks would help me a lot.

I have a very said story.

I have an old Dell laptop (6 years old!) and I can't play the latest shooter games (Crysis, Skyrim) on this poor fellow so I need to put him to sleep, sniff, I need a more powerful laptop with everything better so I have to apply! True story! lol

a few years ago, there had been a local, little 6 year old boy that had died from a rare (and virtually unknown) illness. One of my great-nieces had been in the same class as him and knew the family from school activities they shared.

One day he was totally fine...just a normal, healthy, active little man. Then three days later, his parents were planning his funeral.

Incomprehensible for any parent....

The family did not have the funds for the funeral expenses, so a benefit was held. Put together by friends & family to assist with the $6+ thousand dollar funeral bill. Community support poured out....it seemed like everyone I knew had contributed something. Time...money...services...food items.

Area businesses had been generous as well. Local caterers had volunteered to come in, prepare/serve the meal. The venue was donated. DJ was there to provide background music. Huge participation with our civil service departments. Fire fighters...police. EMS teams.

Attendance was high...with many people waiting in line outside to comply with maximum occupancy safety regulations.

No one minded.

An auction was held to sell little pastries & desserts people had prepared for an im-promptu bakery sale. I watched as people dug deep into their purses & wallets, paying $20..$30..$40 for a dozen cupcakes...a pie...or a few cookies.

I was humbled.

Donations exceeded 4x what was needed to cover the final expenses. Not a substitute for the little boy lost...but it was all anyone could give to the family.

We post, read, & comment on each other's threads everyday in this forum. We link the stories to another disaster...to another tragedy. We point fingers at who's to blame...who is right. Who is wrong. And we debate the possible solutions as to how to prevent it from happening again.

We agree....we disagree....we compliment....we offend.

We are well aware of what's going on in the world. The hate. The violence. The ugliness all around us. How it's easy (and probably an act of self-preservation) to become desensitized to it all. We've seen what it looks like when people act their worst. Imagine what could be created if more people acted their best.
