I didn't really want to put this out there but i will because the cause is so near and dear to my heart. My parents are 75 and 71. My mom retired as a school bus driver...twice...and my dad owns a very small business. He taught himself everything he knows from the ground up. It started out as a hobby. He has had his shop for the last 30 yrs.
Within the last year Dad's business has been VERY slow, there has been alot of times where he has only made money 2 or 3 days a week. These people have ALWAYS been up at 4am and worked until 5:45 (mom) and dad has stayed until 8, 9 and sometimes 10 pm just to try to make some money. Mom had to go back to work driving a bus after she had retired because they needed the money.
Within the last year it has been the worst Ive ever seen it...I give them all the extra money I have left over and I buy them.groceries because if i didnt they LITERALLY would not have any groceries! But THIS IS WHAT CHAPS MY BUTT TO NO END RIGHT HERE....3 months ago I talked them into going and applying for food stamps and to see if there was any type of assistance that they can get it being that they had paid into the system there entire lives I was shocked to find out mom.and dad could only get $26 a month in food stamps! The caseworker told them they could get an older vehicle and sell the only nice car they own which is a 2004 Toyota Highlander!!! They did not qualify for anything else. They were told they could SELL THEIR ONLY GOOD VEHICLE AND THEY COULD GET A LITTLE MORE HELP!!! ... My Dad asked the caseworker, he said " tell me something.. if me and my wife were hereII from Mexico and were starving and couldn't speak any english to tell you what all we needed and we had never paid into the system here what would we get?"... dad said the caseworker in darke county ohio looked at him and told him that under the obama administration they would be entitled to EVERYTHING THEY HAD TO OFFER!!!".... dad looked at my mom told her to get her purse they were leaving!!! Americans that had paid into the system there in tire lives could only get 26 dollars a month in food stamps that was the only help they were entitled to get it saddens me beyond belief. recently I myself have fallen on some hard times and I have been struggling to help my mom and dad out .I would love to be able to tell Mom don't worry about buying anything this month. Neither of them are on medication.
I would just love to give something to them to return the many times they gave to me and my children so unselfishly.....I know there are those who are worse off & if its not given to me I will continue to do just as ive done and give them every amount I possibly can. But i suppose it never hurts to ask.
