Re: Inspired by Trinity's generosity I will match his offer...
Brief,
I didn't really want to put this out there but i will because the cause is so near and dear to my heart. My parents are 75 and 71. My mom retired as a school bus driver...twice...and my dad owns a very small business. He taught himself everything he knows from the ground up. It started out as a hobby. He has had his shop for the last 30 yrs.
Within the last year Dad's business has been VERY slow, there has been alot of times where he has only made money 2 or 3 days a week. These people have ALWAYS been up at 4am and worked until 5:45 (mom) and dad has stayed until 8, 9 and sometimes 10 pm just to try to make some money. Mom had to go back to work driving a bus after she had retired because they needed the money.
Within the last year it has been the worst Ive ever seen it...I give them all the extra money I have left over and I buy them.groceries because if i didnt they LITERALLY would not have any groceries! But THIS IS WHAT CHAPS MY BUTT TO NO END RIGHT HERE....3 months ago I talked them into going and applying for food stamps and to see if there was any type of assistance that they can get it being that they had paid into the system there entire lives I was shocked to find out mom.and dad could only get $26 a month in food stamps! The caseworker told them they could get an older vehicle and sell the only nice car they own which is a 2004 Toyota Highlander!!! They did not qualify for anything else. They were told they could SELL THEIR ONLY GOOD VEHICLE AND THEY COULD GET A LITTLE MORE HELP!!! ... My Dad asked the caseworker, he said " tell me something.. if me and my wife were hereII from Mexico and were starving and couldn't speak any english to tell you what all we needed and we had never paid into the system here what would we get?"... dad said the caseworker in darke county ohio looked at him and told him that under the obama administration they would be entitled to EVERYTHING THEY HAD TO OFFER!!!".... dad looked at my mom told her to get her purse they were leaving!!! Americans that had paid into the system there in tire lives could only get 26 dollars a month in food stamps that was the only help they were entitled to get it saddens me beyond belief. recently I myself have fallen on some hard times and I have been struggling to help my mom and dad out .I would love to be able to tell Mom don't worry about buying anything this month. Neither of them are on medication.
I would just love to give something to them to return the many times they gave to me and my children so unselfishly.....I know there are those who are worse off & if its not given to me I will continue to do just as ive done and give them every amount I possibly can. But i suppose it never hurts to ask.
Brief--- I gotta say, Im really proud of you and I think alot of us have seen a very special side of you today that has taken us by surprise!! You RAWK man! clappa

 Quoting: Angelic_Warrior

Ain't that the truth? I still can't believe he's been voted in - twice.

My new year is getting off to a bang. Because they did a "Cost of living" increase for those receiving SSDI/SS benefits, my public housing rent went up by 28 dollars, my food stamps went down my 26 dollars and my cost of living increase? Thirteen dollars!! So I will now be living on less money than I was before the increase! Oh lands. I can't wait to see how much my Medicare part D is. One of my Rxs alone without the part D is like 600 dollars for 30 days. I hope, hope, that I will still be able to get the generic for 6.80 for thirty days or I'm going to be in a pickle. Oh well, it's only money, but when your income is under 10k a year, ever penny must be accounted for.

Hopefully, this year will be the turn around for me. I started my own business last year doing research from my home computer. It's what I did for a living before I broke and ended up on disability, so hopefully I will get enough clients to get the hell out of this governmental hell hole.

MissSunshine? Can you send me a PM with your paypal email address? I'll come up with something. I have elderly parents too and I worry. My dad is 70 and still has to work so they have insurance to pay for my mom's insulin pump. Medicare doesn't cover it because even after 15 years of the technology being proven to work for Type 1 Diabetics with Juvenile Diabetes Meletius, they consider it to be "experimental".

Your generosity is outstanding! The world needs more leaders and less sheeple!
I would use it to pay some bills and make sure that my step daughters birthday is a good one, its January 10th! She has diabetes since 9 months old. I would like to get her a new pump cover and the receipt for me paying some bills.. hahaha

I think its nice that you do this but I would have went local and found 3 families that were struggling.
I know there are people on the internet that struggle too but no way to really know who is being truthful.
A couple years ago I kept watching a lady post that reminds me of Miggy, always struggling or trying to help someone. She had a set back or so she said and I sent her $300 only to find out later that she was raking in money on a regular basic by continuing to post the sob stories."Not in any way implying that Miggy does this"

But since then I send no one money online and if I hear of someone locally struggling I try to help them anonymously.
In most instances a person thats really on the up and up will be to embarrassed to let anyone but close friends know about their situation unless they do it regularly to get funds.
Its a bit like charities you donate and it never gets to whom you meant it for so now I find a real person and put the money in their hand.

Love ya, Brief for doing this most awesome thing!

My suggestion is Miggy.
 Quoting: Carol B.

Yes it is very nice of you Brief, but unlike Carol, I hope you consider someone who hasn't had ongoing support. Miggy is in the lead in Trinity's thread. Miggy is great, but she at least has her food and housing provided and only has to write a few words and have people lining up to donate money. Not that she isn't worthy, but it would just be nice to see someone who doesn't have ongoing support get some benefit.

Reading the other thread, and this one, it would be so hard to decide. A teacher who wants to get back to students, a person in their 60's caring for their parents without a break, people without food, a young man with a song and a dream.

Makes my heart heavy to read it all. Good luck trying to decide.

Whomever you choose Brief, I hope it is someone who GENUINELY NEEDS the money for survival (food, bills, medicine, etc.) and not just some loser who wants to party for the new years on someone elses dime because they are having a mid life crises or whatever.
