This is unsuprising. For me it doesn't so much suggest evidence that the site in question has been "compromised" but rather, the site admin is more worried about repuation and loss of ad revenue.

Those ad people are quick to pull their ads from any site which might make them look bad, especially high profile advertisers like the site in question is affiliated with.

Either way though, surpression of speculation is a bad thing.
