It seems that behind every kind and loving action there is the motive to control and use, and that behind every seemingly cruel and selfish action is a motive that is not so evil or selfish as it would seem. Everyone seems to be working for the greater good on one hand, regardless of their methods, but at the same time their definitions of what the greater good is drives them apart and causes them to resort to deception and destruction.
They all speak of peace and pure love, of noble ideas and beautiful nirvanas, of equality and acceptance....but so far all I can see is the horrors they inflict and the prices they make others pay for their goals. They too often pay a price for their dreams, but their sacrifice is diminished by the price they manipulate others into paying for their cause.
Since love is the ultimate goal, why not stop all the schemes and plans, all the endless conflict and just love?
Because, they all say, existence is not yet how it should be. And even if one were to stop fighting, what would keep the others from attacking? No, they all say, love and peace will have to wait until it is over and we have achieved our goals and made sure that those who oppose us are punished for what they do against us.
And so they keep fighting amongst themselves in an infinite power struggle, paving the way for their heavens on the blood and broken hearts and disillusioned minds of those they called friends but were no more than pawns.
"They claim their labors are to build a heaven. But their heaven is full of horrors." - Dr. Manhattan
And so here I sit, in the center of it all, not knowing where to go, who to side with, which way is the right way, who holds the truth, who really works for Love and Good, if I'm making a mistake when I choose one side over the others...perhaps the mistake is to choose at all.
Perhaps here, in the center, in between all of them, is the best path. Attached to all factions and yet remaining separate. It's lonely here - no one else seems to be here, as they're all too wrapped up in their ways - but perhaps that's ok when faced with the alternatives and the horrors they sow.
