Navy rescue workers sue Japan over Fukushima cover-up — “Irreparable harm to life expectancy” — Gov’t and Tepco conspired
[...] Eight crew members of the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan, whose home port is San Diego, sued the Tokyo Electric Power Co. in Federal Court. [...]

Lead plaintiff Lindsay R. Cooper claims Tokyo Electric (TEPCO) intentionally concealed the dangerous levels of radiation in the environment from U.S. Navy rescue crews working off the coast of Japan [...]

The complaint states: “Defendant TEPCO and the government of Japan, conspired and acted in concert, among other things, to create an illusory impression that the extent of the radiation that had leaked from the site of the FNPP was at levels that would not pose a threat to the plaintiffs, in order to promote its interests and those of the government of Japan, knowing that the information it disseminated was defective, incomplete and untrue, while omitting to disclose the extraordinary risks posed to the plaintiffs who were carrying out their assigned duties aboard the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan.” [...]

And, they say: “Defendants had actual and/or constructive knowledge of the properties of radiation that would ensure that, once released into the environment, radiation would spread further and in concentrations that would cause injury to the plaintiffs.” [...]

The sailors say they “face additional and irreparable harm to their life expectancy, which has been shortened and cannot be restored to its prior condition.”

Lawsuit: “Reactor itself” melted down, not only nuclear fuel rods — Japan gov’t “lying through their teeth about meltdowns”

The Fukushima nuclear disaster exposed Navy rescue workers to dangerous levels of radiation, which the government-owned power plant covered up, eight U.S. sailors claim in court. [...]

“As a consequence of the earthquake and tsunami, the reactors were damaged and power to the cooling mechanism of the FNPP was interrupted, resulting in a meltdown of the fuel and reactor itself, thereby triggering the release of high levels of radiation.” [...]

The plaintiffs claim the government deliberately misled them: “the Japanese government kept representing that there was no danger of radiation contamination to the U.S.S. Reagan … and/or its crew, that ‘everything is under control,’ ‘all is OK, you can trust us,’ and there is ‘no immediate danger’ or threat to human life, all the while lying through their teeth about the reactor meltdowns at FNPP. U.S. wasn't fully prepared for radiation risks following Japan earthquake, top general says

In the first few days of Japan’s nuclear crisis this spring, the U.S. military wasn’t fully prepared to deal with possible radiation exposure to its troops and equipment, the top U.S. general in Japan said Wednesday.

“As the (Fukushima Dai-ichi) reactors exploded and they sent some of that radiation out, we had the issue with it being detected off shore by the Navy,” he said. “We had to start dealing with the kind of environment that the U.S. military had not really worked in, so we didn’t have the strictest guidelines on what kind of risk we would take in terms of radiation exposure for our (service) members.”

U.S. Forces Japan has declined Stars and Stripes’ requests to release the levels of radiation or toxic substances detected in areas where U.S. personnel worked during Operation Tomodachi. The military also has not released levels of radiation detected on servicemembers’ clothing and equipment.

- so what don't they want us to know?

hey waterbug.
this is particularly amusing basically stating,
we the us military have never tested nukes before we dont know what they do. anybody the believes this shit including the serviceman themselves are .... dont even have the words for the talking head shit anymore... they are in for a world of hurt, the ignorance is stupefying.

this is getting frustrating. time for a new painting.

The sailors say they "face additional and irreparable harm to their life expectancy, which has been shortened and cannot be restored to its prior condition."

[...]

They are seeking $10 million in compensatory damages and $30 million in punitive damages for fraud, negligence, strict liability, failure to warn, public and private nuisance, and defective design. They also want TEPCO ordered to establish a fund of $100 million to pay for their medical expenses.

Professor Michio Kaku, City College of New York:

We had three simultaneous core meltdowns in Fukushima, but the uranium actually liquified — liquified — we’ve never seen a totally liquified core before.

First time in history.

But the Fukushima reactor actually melted totally.

I get that they have the right to sue. That said, the navy knew, and everyone on that ship knew the dangers of radiation. No doubt they measured the levels before, during, and after they went in.

They knew better, and they did the stupid anyway. Whose fault is that really?

I honestly believe the only reason tepco and the Japanese government act the way they do, is because they must know something we don't, and obviously they feel the impact from fuku will pale in impact with whatever comes next

This is good, i like it!

But on the other side i need to laugh, very loudly
because of the Crime they (the Army) do!

The US-Army done great things after the Tsunami,
Operation Tomodachi and the more or less secret
Work in F'Shima saved a lot of Lifes!

I really like it but i doubt that it will be successful.

Just plain seawater. NBC wash down, simply rinses away particulates that MAY have radioactive particles attached to them. Radiation itself does not travel well without attaching to something.

"Radiation" is light, pure and simple. It does not attach to anything more than the beam of light from a flashlight does.

Radioactive particles however do emit radiation, and might be washed away.

I think everyone in the entire United States should join a class action suit against them and anyone who anything to do with those reactors.

And it's still leaking bad!

And the Japanese are burning contaminated waste to get rid of it but whats its doing is further polluting the whole world.
