Re: Let's do 3 more $333.33 Christmas gifts-please tell me your story or nominate others as I have not kept track of everyone
Hello, I'm a stay at home mom of three (they're very little children, so it makes way more sense for me to be here with them at this time...saves us way more money by having home cooked meals, only one vehicle, daycare expense, etc.) Just thought I would emphasize that before someone tells me to "get a job" haha, Also my husband is in the telecommunications business so our cable and internet are a courtesy job perk. Anyways, the reason for our need :)

First, I would pay the $95 left for the month for our rent. We shorted the landlord, but pulled off a MAGICAL Christmas with a mix of new and used gifts for the children :)

Second, my 6 year old washer decided to stop working Christmas Eve Eve...my wonderful husband has it all taken apart downstairs and thinks he narrowed it down to the water pump and belt, which will make the total parts $75. If this fails, I would use the rest of the money and find us a decent used washer (I would be so sad, as I really love this washer we bought new...I feel like we have a bond haha).

If you have children, you know how VERY important this appliance is in the household. But having that streak of survival in me, we've been making do.

Lastly, if there is any left over...I will spend it on groceries!! Can't have enough :)

I appreciate being consider, what a beautiful thing to do :)) "Win" or lose, I promise with all my heart to pass this act of gratitude on one day when we find ourselves in a better financial situation. Thank you so very much, Bless you!

Re: Let's do 3 more $333.33 Christmas gifts-please tell me your story or nominate others as I have not kept track of everyone
If you would consider me I could really use it. I have had a very rough year. I was able to give my son all that he wanted for Christmas but now have nothing left and I do not get paid again for 3 weeks.
I would consider it a loan and will pay it back by giving 3 people $100 each for the months of Jan, Feb and March. I cannot do that much in a lump sum.
I have made nice comeback from horrendous circumstances and I am very proud of my progress. Without going into details my life was almost ruined but I was determined that it wouldn't be. By God's grace I have been able to make it thru.
I recently had a birthday and I can't remember the last time I got a present. I can't remember the last time I got a real Christmas present either.
If you would consider me I would really appreciate it. I am a member but can't remember my password or login so I always just come on as an AC. I hope you won't hold it against me.

Thanks

Not for me, for my Mother.

She just found out she has lung cancer (both lungs) so they cannot operate. (It is not from smoking fyi).

Me and my brother would like to send her on a cruise as it is something she has always wanted to do.

They give her 8 to 12 months with chemo/radiation. She starts her chemo at the end of Jan 2013 so we would like to send her before she starts treatment.

I posted this on the original thread as well.

I would like to be considered for this GLP gift because 2012 was a disaster for me.

I had been developing a company for 10 years when late 2011 my partner cut me out totally. We worked in trust ( stupid )
As soon as i taught him part of a successful system i built for the company he started to cut me out. Only in hignsight i found out he was badmouthing me and telling lies so to push me out.

Anyway starting 2012 i was out. I tried to start another business with other partners but it didn't get off the ground.

I made 3500 in 2012. Since the new business failed i have been trying to get any kind of job i can. For some weird reason i haven't been able to get. Not usual, but its been constant stress all the way to the end of the year. I have a young kid.

My story is pretty shitty, but I am functioning and I am sure there are people on here who really aren't. As long as my kids are fed, I am okay and they are. I just wanted to say how awesome I think this is. hfhfhf
 Quoting: IndigoSerenity76

i think almost everyone is desperate for some financial help these days, as am i. truth is the cost of living has dramatically risen, and sadly, my income has not. i have had to tighten the belt so much that every "extra" i'm used to having had to be done away with. no cell phone, no new clothes/shoes, no dining out, no manicures, no taking my kids to movies, etc. when my husband died, i had to immediately move into a smaller place, and implement a dramatic re-budgeting of our household expenses.

isn't easy. but, i am getting the hang of it. the hard part is not having enough money to go out and do things. so, i sit home and make the best of it. i have to carry internet for school and that basically is my only luxury. and i smoked cigarettes (about three a day) and i even cut that out of the scenario. that and soda pop.

damn you, obama...

anyway...

the point is that it is possible to live on half of what you used to have. and it's possible to adapt to having a minimal meager existence for the time being. it's taken me a couple years to adapt, but i think i am getting the hang of it. i think the boredom is the hardest thing since gas money is so costly and i have to keep my monthly gasoline expense at 40 bucks.

i am not posting this because i am asking for money, as bad as i need it and as tasty as this offer is. i am posting because EVERYONE has had to tighten the belt, and it can be done. and, actually, it's good for us to learn to not waste, buy only what we use and be very frugal, watch our spending as close as possible.

OP, very kind of you to help along with Trin and Brief.
you guys are alright in my book.

may God richly reward your kindness.

If you would nominate me I would put the money to good use. Money is very tight these days, and I have to save up for a long long time to save up for anything. My boys both could use a pair of shoes, and my oldest son lost his luggage, which had all his clothing in it. I would go thrift shopping and buy what we need, I would put food in the house, since we have been living off ramen, rice and beans for the whole month. I am on a fixed income, and it is very tight. I don't qualify for stamps because I earn what I can on ebay, but business is slow. Me and my boys could use it for sure. We didn't put up a Christmas tree this year, and I got them a present each in November. That was Christmas around here. We ate leftover beans on Christmas today, and today we are eating rice again.

Can't seem to locate it. Don't remember if it was on Trinitys or Briefs thread.
If anyone remembers could you point me in the right direction?

Here's my story:

My son is penniless, and so is my daughter - and she wants to start raising a few chickens in our urban St. Louis setting because she refuses to consume factory chicken eggs. OK, my son is 7 and daughter 11, so maybe it's not unusual that they're penniless. Well, actually they have a small amount in the bank, which we won't let them touch for now. This is too hard -- I can't go on...
Best Wishes,
Uncle Alyosha

And here's a GLP-appropriate Bible verse (atheists may read, too):

God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong.

I didn't say my whole story in Trinity's other thread because it would embarrass my family. If I were to win one of the offerings, I would have to tell my family how I won it.

I'll add just a few details this time just because it was kind of nice telling how great my mom is on the other thread. She is the glue that holds our family together.

For every family occasion, she has to buy the food and have the gathering at her house. No one else has funds to provide the whole thing. We all help out as much as we can but we have 3 homeless family members. We help them first as much as we can.

The rest of us are barely holding onto what little we do have. This has gone on for years. We don't exchange gifts, but we do make something or maybe give $1.00 things. We manage to have fun, for that one day, anyway.

Mom is retired plus she is getting up there in years. We almost lost her last year. I would love to give her a nice gift for once, just to say thanks. And I would give her the cash and let her choose something. I would be glad to tell her that the GLP forum voted her mom of the year or something like that if it touches your heart.

Thanks and I wish the best for everyone. I know a lot of us have these type stories. I think it's awesome to see the generosity being offered here. Thank you for inspiring the rest of us.

Edit: I pay for an account here because this place means so much to me. I eat less food so I can afford it. I don't have a tv, cell, car, insurance or my own home. I tried to post here without registering, but that was problematic, heh!!!

My name is Maggie Mae. I am a twenty six year old single mother of two young boys. I work as a waitress here in North English, Iowa. I make minimum wage and can never get ahead on anything. I spent my last one hundred and forty dollars of bill money to give my boys a few cheap gifts and christmas dinner. Now I read on GLP using a twenty dollar prepaid phone from the dollar store and it wont let me create an account to log in with. My boys are four and two. Named Nolan and Eli. Their father is no longer around. I pray I can raise my boys to be good productive men. Thanks for reading. hejj@hotmail.com

I posted here a couple months back regarding the issue, embarrassing though it was, it helped me see that even complete strangers can be more compassionate than long time friends and family.
Anyhow, in February, I was living in PA with my fiancee. I had moved there from Las Vegas to be with her and in having done so, I discovered an amazing family that taught me what a family should be.
I had been hired on for my dream job just after the 16th that month; I would be writing for 38 Studios in Providence, RI, for an upcoming game they were working on. This is what I had dreamed of my whole life.
My fiancee and I packed up and headed out. All was well until a few months later, the company declared bankruptcy and laid off all 300+ employees. Devastated, we made our way back to PA to live with her parents while we figured things out.
Within a week of arriving, we came to found out that her childhood home of over 20 years was being sold out from under her parents... by the owners, her grandmother and great aunt.
Given this situation, we explored several options - my father, a contractor here in Las Vegas, begged me to come back home. He promised steady pay, a company car and peace of mind. He told me he wanted me back close to the family.
We scraped together our savings, in addition her family helped us out with several thousand dollars, their savings as well, and we made the trip.
From the moment we got here, nothing was as promised.
My father, who was warm and welcoming, who begged me to come back, was cold, callous and mean.
Work was sparse, and when we had it, it never paid in a timely manner.
We have been struggling to keep afloat in the worst city for finding a job. I have been working odd jobs and even took a position at Starbucks to keep the bills paid, but it is simply not enough.
Finally 2 weeks ago, we found out that my lovely wife to be is expecting. We are blessed and overjoyed by this, but terrified all the same because what little money we have now, which is to say just enough to keep utilities on and a roof over our head, is simply not enough.
I have nine days to complete my rent, and I have a feeling that I'm going to be just short.
This money would be a god send.
It would help us keep our heads above water and give us a fighting chance.

We're just starting out, and our luck hasn't been great, but I've kept faith and I hope that you can be the Christmas miracle we've been praying for!
Also, if anyone in the area has odd jobs they need done, hit me up any time.

Should I win, I'll even go so far as to provide receipts showing how I used the cash.
