I live in Michigan. Short travel is ok but mostly could not travel far or relocate. A job working from home via the internet would be ideal, and I have done this before, for many years at a large ISP.

I can Systems Administration. Working on webservers, linux or windows IIS. Experience with a large webserver farm, and many years experience fixing things online or over the phone. Good customer service skills.

Computer sales and repair service CHEAP $50 then just put out your phone number.

Local marketing for business; google maps, yelp, web presence, fb twitter etc..

If this person finds a job this way I wouldn't consider it begging. This is a forum of many and he or she is not asking for anything for free. There is nothing wrong with using every resource available. I respect this person much much more than those that suck our system dry accepting welfare bribes

Stop being a mindless work sheep. That is exactly what your overlords want you to do. Get up, go to work, go home, consume, consume, consume, sleep and do it all over again.

The best advice would be to learn a skill or utilize a current one. Let's bring it down to basics. You have to have one of two things. You have to have a service or a product. From there you can branch out to almost anything. Maybe offer wood cutting services or go to areas where you are allowed to cut wood and sell it. Are you handy? You can fix things.

Marketing your skill is as simple as newspaper ad placement, craigslist.com, word of mouth or even a sign outside of your own home. This is something seem to forget in our society is that WE are some of the best job creators for ourselves. It may be a bit more work but yields a better pay in most instances and allows you to do something YOU ultimately hold yourself accountable for.

For what it's worth, OP should be praised for utilizing every resource available. Looking for work on GLP falls under the heading of NETWORKING, which is what everyone looking for a job must do. I happen to know someone in Chicago with marketable skills who has applied for 72 jobs in the last 6 weeks and has had only 1 call-back.

The problem is that for those willing to work there are thousands of younger, hence lower-paid, applicants for the same jobs.

And unless you are a woman with children or disabled, there is no welfare money for you in Illinois. At the best you might get unemployment supplemented by food stamps. If you are lucky enough to live in Cook County you might qualify for free healthcare at Cook County (Stroger) Hospital.

Unless you are an illegal immigrant, woman with children, a child, homeless, or Native American, the free clinics don't want to see you.

For a middle-aged single white guy the options are nil to none.

Most I know have started their own small businesses doing metal recycling, cleaning, computer repair or the like. The days of the Nineties when you could leave your job on Friday and get one across the street by Monday are long gone and most likely never to return.

A little reality check.

Why don't employers make a thread on here to fill out apps.

Post where and how , then allow the glp user to do it.

NETWORKING is something which can be done anywhere, any place, with anyone.
I network all the time.
A Conspiracy site is just as good, in fact it's great because there are thousands of us here.
Even lurkers could jump in with a job, or an idea.

Look for transcription work on the internet. They are plentiful and easy. There is a site I used to go there it was like a transcription only craig's list, but i dont remember the url.

Go through San Francisco bay area help wanted ads on craigslist, not to mention posting in services and checking gigs. Shit load of Linux admin work in this area. Your trick is convincing an employer to let you do it remote.

I would like to train to do medical coding which is a job one can do from home (I have a home office). However, since husband's business is soooooo super slow thanks to the economy, can't afford to get the training. Yet, I tried to get help through careerlink for training yet I don't qualify cause they say we made too much for a family of three. Whatever!!!!!

It is sooo upsetting. I just hope we don't end up being foreclosed on like so many more americans due to lack of work.
