Limiting yourself to only jobs at home eliminates most of those.

Why do you have to work from home? Is this a requirement for some reason?

I'm too busy working in the salt mine trying to take care of my three kids but I've always wanted to make wood products out of pallets. You can make bird houses, bird feeders, mail boxes, toy boxes, etc, etc and all you need is some simple hand tools to get started.

Get a hammer, crows foot (kinda like a short crowbar for pulling the planks off the stringer), handsaw, some small nails, a little glue and some paint. Go down to your local office supply, grocery, or lumber yard and see if they have any pallets you can haul away. Many stores send them back to their suppliers but if they are busted up too bad they just take them to the dump.

Use your imagination for decorations you can gather and go from there. Throw a picture up on ebay or take a few of your wares to a local farmers market and see what happens?

Might not make you rich but it could put a little money in your pocket and open up other doors.

BTW, congrats for putting out the request. Most people who are willing to work don't want to admit they need help finding it so hopefully you will be an example to them too.

I've heard that the cost of living is pretty steep there.....

OP - Me too! A few weeks ago my husband went off the road, and we still haven't totally fixed the car. I lost my job a couple weeks ago, and while we managed an ok Christmas for our kids, it could have been better.

I WANT to work, very much, but have not had much luck finding another job. Best of luck to you!

I have applied many places here in Florida but it's always done through the Internet and nobody ever calls back.

I wish it was like the good old days where you applied in person and I had luck with that because it was personal and the managers liked me.

And what is wrong with begging? People do it all the time to get a job. It is called getting an INTERVIEW.

At age 62 I find myself studying for Comptia's Network+ exam. My background is in IT but I know from experience that they'll ask technical questions during the interview. Where I used to work they gave all potential new hires a 50 question network exam. Much has changed since that exam. Fortunately I look more like late 40's. Plus I can relocate. We'll see what happens......

Your not intelligent at all. If you were you would quickly realize that unless you are going to create your own online job nobody is going to hire you or if you are you are going to work for free.

You can google rentacoder.com and see what the going rates are for online jobs. However you have just pitted yourself against import third world programmers, who incidentally make better than a wal-mart worker would make in North America.

I have a question.

I filled out an application online, I attached my resume with my work experience on it. Do I also have to fill out the little boxes for work experience? Seems redundant and its kind of a pain in the ass.

military is being cut back $600 billion Jan 1st. and I'm sure that is just the first of many cuts. What I would be concerned with is long term health care for those who are seriously injured. I don't think the money will be there....

All i can offer is to share what i do. i go to thrift shops, buy old, ugly furniture for a couple of bucks, repaint or reupholster it and resell them for $40-50. business is going good. doing it for a month, part time, made hundreds. i go to school and have two small kids, so i dont get as much done to sell as i would like, but everything sells, and people even have started bringing me their furniture for makeovers.

They all want you to be certified for this work. Doesn't matter how intelligent or how awesome your typing, medical terminology and spelling skills are, without that piece of paper, you're SOL!

exactly... THIS. It is funny that the majority of the USA has developed this aggressive stance towards the unemployed; attaching stereotypical lazy traits to those people. Just goes to show how narrow minded they are.

Actually it was a Canadian who posted that, much to my embarrassment. I am lucky to have seasonal work, full time is rough. We have to stick together.

its depressing to send off 200 resumes in a week and get one call for sales job paying $10. i remember just a year ago send off resume to job site get 50 jobs calling me the next day crazy part i see more jobs listed now than ever before. makes me wonder if jobs are trying to keep unemployment high for another reason
