Helping out needy families with gently used clothing and toys. Do you need help or can you offer help?

Thank you for the bump! Already have a couple of wonderful families we will be helping out, and 2 of my friends have offered donations as well so hopefully we can reach more; I have a large network of friends and I hope to see more donations coming in. I also have some business contacts I will be approaching as well to see if they can help. You'd be surprised at how many people out there would consider even a $10 gift card to McDonald's a blessing.

I wish I was in a position to contribute money, but I understand tough times. The best I can do is help raise awareness.

Thank you for helping bump this. It's heartbreaking to realize the sheer number of people affected by this economy and the gov't does nothing to help. Nothing gets to me more than knowing a child is lacking or suffering in any way. It's up to us to help each other out and I do believe this forum is full of beautiful souls. I hope we can help many!

The heck with the troll. I do not have much, but have been Blessed by others on this forum. I have a lot of extra canned goods that I would happily share with anyone in my area of Northwest Indiana.

I have no money, but tons of kids clothes in good condition.(girls)
I also have ladies clothes, all sizes just about.
The only problem that I see is shipping.

Can anyone think of how we can ship the stuff?

This is a great idea! There was a lady, I believe in Germany, that had a store called "give and take" in German of course. She did a lot of good with it.

Maybe we could have similar post....give and take or wants/needs and give away? Something like that.

I have size 9 little boys winter boots Columbia black but I need size 11 or even 12 little girls or boys winter boots. She's a little girl but could wear either, with boys it's harder can't have them wearing pink/purple, they would be traumatised. LOL

Only problem is shipping, I think usps has if it fits it ships? ranging in price $5 and up.

Thanks to everyone jumping on board! I won't make a virtual swap meet (as in, I'll give this if you give me that) but I will try to help those parents who are truly unable to purchase clothes or toys for their little ones, boys or girls.

I have reached out to a few families that posted on the money giveaway threads by Tin, Brief and FW but only a couple have gotten back to me. One has small children close to my son's age so their stuff is already at my house and will ship out this week. The 2nd family has teens as well so they'd need larger sized clothes, shoes, etc.

I have donations coming in next week but if anyone here can help out with gently used clothing and toys, that'd be awesome!

OP I havent had time to read all the replies yet but 1 suggestion really quick about the thread title...

When I read it at first it looked like you needed help with your family and before I opened it I saw 18 replies and almost skipped over it thinking you most likley were going to get ALOT of help for your family already...

Now, I would like to suggest for your concideration to maybe change the title in a way that will draw more people to look instead of think like I almost did! I dont have time to think right now as I have a client waiting!

I would like to put it out there that I cannot afford to ship items to anyone at this time but I would like to help out anyone in need in the CHICAGOLAND area with baby/toddler girls clothes and toys if someone is in need! I also have a car so am willing to drive to drop off items if they dont have a form of transportation available!

This should be a permanent feature on GLP. I've thought about that for a long time. Sort of a permanent GLP barter forum section. Only trouble is, the US is such a vast place when it comes to transporting goods. And what about the UK and other countries? Or maybe it could be split up into different countries/regions.

I, too, think we could benefit from having a similar permanent feature in the forum, perhaps divided by region as most of us who are based in the US can't afford to ship outside the country. I realize we aren't the only country needing help for our fellow citizens, so it would be a great idea to make it available to everyone. I thought about setting up a page on my business website but I didn't want anyone thinking I was trying to somehow get anything out of it.

Now if there are any out there who will inevitably try to get freebies, without any real need, just know that there are many ways to verify, so please don't try to take away from people who truly have a need. It won't be tolerated.

Please feel free to post (anonymously, if you wish) what you need for your little ones, and for donors, please share what you have on hand to donate, your location, a contact email and any other pertinent info. Thanks everyone who is participating!

Hello there Princess!! I have gently used clothing for a Pre-teen or skinny woman size 0-2, all top quality stuff. i also have a few warm jackets and sweaters for our friends in the arctic zones. PM me is you can provide a mailing address to anyone needing such clothing. I gained 10 lbs. and am now a size 2-4 and I like it better than being a size zero. My face is fuller which is good.

Thousands of people have been on facebook pages donating to victims of Sandy Storm which occurred on October 29th. Money, toys, household goods, clothes, food, places to stay, etc. have been flowing in. There were some towns who asked that donations cease....they have nowhere to store the stuff.

Also the families of victims in Newtown, CT, are receiving thousands of dollars worth of donations daily. Requests are posted on facebook, and people from all over the world are sending money to the families who lost children.
