Don't really have anything to donate but I could send you $100 to help with costs. blwkss

I have the perfect recipient for the $100. One of the families I to whom I reached out about donating clothes/toys has a child with an upcoming birthday and no money to celebrate it. If it's ok with you, we can make arrangements to send it to them?

Thank you for your generosity! hf

Re: Helping out needy families with gently used clothing and toys. Do you need help or can you offer help?
I'd love to be able to help out everyone who needs it, but financially I'm no better off than most of you here. Still, I consider myself blessed to have a home and healthy family and parents who can sometimes help out.

Trin, I see a lot of parents saying they weren't able to give their children much this holiday season, and I was wondering if we could maybe create a "co-op" of sorts to help these folks out?

I'm located in Texas but can ship out of state. I don't have money to buy new clothes and toys but have many avenues which would allow me to collect gently used items, plus my own, that can go to anyone in need.

If you're a parent of small children in need of clothing, or used toys, please post here and try to include an email address where you can be reached.

If you're a donor, maybe you can help a family in need.

I love what Trin started and Brief and FW followed... I do believe that although it's great to give anonymously, it's even better to inspire others to give.

MartianPrincess,

I'm not a member, so I can't reply to you in a PM. Would it be possible for you to post an email address in case we wish to contact you privately? I would be more than happy to send a donation to you. Will there be a post office box in the future? Because I think checks and cash would pour in to a brick and mortar building. I think you are a wonderful and generous soul for doing this.

Bless you MP. Don't hesitzte to sting the trolls. I'm married to a Scorpio. ha ha. I know how they are.

Hi Meadow, you can contact me at [email protected]
About monetary donations, I wonder if I need to start a nonprofit to accept them? I can easily keep track and receipts and all that but I'm concerned about the legalities. Otherwise, I could setup a PO box with no problems.

Thanks for your offer! Oh, you bet I won't hesitate to use this stinger when need be; we Scorps get a bad rap but truth is while we are smartasses, we are mean only when provoked, just like the arachnid after which we are named. Most Scorpios I know personally are very kind, sensitive people and quick to stand up for others, something not typically associated with our sign. hf

Re: Helping out needy families with gently used clothing and toys. Do you need help or can you offer help?
I can round up girls clothes sizes 5 thru 8.
As I said, I have gently worn blouses, sizes range from large to 2x, jeans 16-+
Jackets size XL
All I good condition.
I also hoard shampoo, bars of soap
I have about 3 pay to go cell phones
I have blankets also.
All in good condition, clean home.

I'm in the Four corners area west of Orlando if someone is looking for any of these things and are in need, pm me please.

I do not have money for shipping, but if you do, we can arrange shipping, or if someone wants to donate for the shipping, that would be fantastic.

Thank you for starting this thread, Op.hf

Re: Helping out needy families with gently used clothing and toys. Do you need help or can you offer help?
OP I havent had time to read all the replies yet but 1 suggestion really quick about the thread title...

When I read it at first it looked like you needed help with your family and before I opened it I saw 18 replies and almost skipped over it thinking you most likley were going to get ALOT of help for your family already...

Sorry if that sounds horrible but I ended up clicking on it anyway and then realized the importance of this post!!!

Awesome job for starting this OP and great thinking!!!

Karma for you!!! + 5 stars!!!

Now, I would like to suggest for your concideration to maybe change the title in a way that will draw more people to look instead of think like I almost did! I dont have time to think right now as I have a client waiting!

I would like to put it out there that I cannot afford to ship items to anyone at this time but I would like to help out anyone in need in the CHICAGOLAND area with baby/toddler girls clothes and toys if someone is in need! They can contact me at [email protected] and I will get in touch with them about what it is they need and I have!

I also have a car so am willing to drive to drop off items if they dont have a form of transportation available!

I am in the western suburbs of the city but will go to ANYWHERE in the Chicago area for anyone who needs help if I can!

Thanks again OP!!! Nice JOB! hf

Re: Helping out needy families with gently used clothing and toys. Do you need help or can you offer help?
I am in Indianapolis and I can deliver let's say within 50 miles or so?

We have an abundance of teen/junior girl clothing here in my house. I'd say sizes med to large for tops and sizes 9 and 11 for jeans mostly. Nice stuff, mostly from the mall. And I'm sure some shoes (7,8,9) and purses and other girlie things as well.

I also have a lot of extra dishes and bowls and various kitchen items that are in great shape. Probably other household-y stuff that I can't think of at the moment.

I'd also like to point out that Goodwill has a wall of T-shirts for just 1.99 each. Granted, they mostly all say random companies and charities, but some can be quite amusing. Our's also has a lot of sports shirts from the local schools which is fun, too. A lot of times they are brand new, especially charity ones think "race for the cure" and things like that. Anyway, I know teens can be picky but my girls enjoy rummaging through those and finding fun ones, it's honestly one of our favorite things to go do together. We joke with each other about our trip to Bermuda or how we did in the race or whatever the shirt says LOL. Oh and they also make for great pajamas if you get them in larger sizes.

I can and would be willing to ship things to people in need. I have and know a lot of people who have nice things that other people, kids can use.

[email protected]

email me if i can help others!

I wish there as a site that allowed me to ship things right to the person, people, kids who are in need. I could do it on my own time and know that i sent the stuff right to the people in need.

Re: Helping out needy families with gently used clothing and toys. Do you need help or can you offer help?
Thanks to everyone jumping on board! I won't make a virtual swap meet (as in, I'll give this if you give me that) but I will try to help those parents who are truly unable to purchase clothes or toys for their little ones, boys or girls.

I have reached out to a few families that posted on the money giveaway threads by Tin, Brief and FW but only a couple have gotten back to me. One has small children close to my son's age so their stuff is already at my house and will ship out this week. The 2nd family has teens as well so they'd need larger sized clothes, shoes, etc.

I have donations coming in next week but if anyone here can help out with gently used clothing and toys, that'd be awesome! hf

Thank YOU for helping! I have a family that matches your donation offer. Will put you in contact. :)

If you want to help but don't have items to offer for donation, please know you can help cover shipping costs so more of these generous folks can ship items to those in need, please know that every little bit helps. A $5 gift certificate can also mean the world to a small child, so keep that in mind.

hf to all of you awesome people looking out for each other. I'll confess that despite my scorpio ways I am very much a crybaby around acts of kindness such as this. You are wonderful, kind, and selfless people and I know your own children would be proud. grouphug

I run a small business and have found the USPS flat boxes the best way to ship especially cross country. They have a B & A regional box which works out better if you ship within nearby zones.
FedEx ground is good for heavy / larger boxes at least here on the west coast. Unless you are a business shipping UPS is expensive.

I'm giving MartianPrincess 10.00 each month to help with the packing and shipping costs.

It's a gift. I don't think I'll go to jail for sending a friend 10.00 a month.

As soon as she rents a PO box or gives me an address, I'll send it right away.

Last I looked it's not against the law to give money to a friend.

Go troll elsewhere.

Thanks for the info and for your generous offer! I am so far using my business FedEx account for the items I am shipping to my first family this week. I wish I could ship a box every single day but I'll do the best I can. She is up in one of those colder states and has small children close to my son's age so I want to get this out asap.

I thought about putting up a page on my biz website to have peple post requests and donation offers, but I didn't want to give the impression I was trying to benefit somehow from it. This is why I won't give out my name or biz website/email address on here, but have no problem doing so privately. I

I can be contacted at: [email protected]

I'll be working on getting a mailbox and putting one of my temps to help sort all offers / requests out.

I donate all kinds of clothing to the church down the street. They have a clothing bank and give it away once per week. I just leave it on their back step at night. Been doing it for at least 10 years. They have no idea that I'm doing it.

Also give cash and canned goods to local food bank and donations at Christmas to the Salvation Army.
