What kind of vehicles do you have that will move in that type of weather? What was the temperature and how much (depth) snow was on the road(s) when you were out? I knew a person hired by VDOT to plow I-66 across northern Fauquier County, Virginia during that 4 foot blizzard we had in Feb. 2010. He was in the BIG truck with the big plow.. the kind that will flatten a car. They had to start plowing before it stopped snowing. This storm was of long duration and the federal government "closed" and went to shelter the night before the storm. He said the snow was so deep that they lost track of where the highway was, which was dangerous at night- in the Blue Ridge mountains where you could just drop off the road and fall/roll hundreds of feet. He said it was so nerve-wracking, he'd run over a few mailboxes, took down a barbed-wire fence and a couple of old wood fences.. almost went down an embankment on a curve - that he just parked the plow in the road and cried like a baby. He said no amount of money could get him to do that again. They had to delay the plowing until daylight. Hospital employees were basically captive. They slept at the hospital and rotated shifts. |
