Moses declared in Leviticus 11: 5 over 3,000 years ago that the rock hyrax chews the cud. Further observation showed that the Hyraxes chew the cud mainly at night for about an hour.....

The reason the Hyrax's cud chewing behavior remained unconfirmed so long is that the animal chews the cud as little as 30 minutes a day and usually at night. Unless hyraxes are held in captivity their cud chewing would not be noticed!"

From Eber down to Abram, Nathor, and Haran... still absolutely no Israelite, no Law of Moses.. Then Abram become Abraham and has Issac... still no Jacob/Israel, hence no Israelits at that point. Well it seems to me that the dietary laws in the Old Testament are good advice and it is true that meat from scavengers are more toxic to the body but now we also have to worry about farmers adding hormones and toxic preservatives that are added to meats. It seems to me that the scripture about sanctifying your food with prayer trumps the other passages but then I'm not a bible expert. I've just noticed for myself that I feel better without eating any meat. I was having stomach illnesses from bacteria every time I ate meat. A lot of it has to do with the lack of cleanliness in the food industry. In Jesus' time they would get everything fresh and slaughter the animals themselves. They would pray in thanksgiving before each meal. We have sort of lost touch with the "sanctification" part of eating meals because everything is so processed. There is definitely something wrong with the way we do things. Anyway, God does want us to be healthy so it is wise to do your research and keep a healthy diet. I guess I fit into the category of following the "spirit" of the law rather than the "letter" of the law since I don't wear a head covering in church. The idea in general is to have humility and respect and love for God, your neighbor and the creation and to take care of your vessel of the Holy Spirit which is your body so that you can be happy and joyful and healthy so that you can be an emissary of God's love to the world. Not always easy to do, but it is better for you and is also less taxing on society as a whole since a healthy community would not have as many problems as we do right now and we wouldn't have as exorbitant health costs and insurance if we took care of our bodies.
