Check the local thrift stores and used bookstores (especially ones that don't specialize in textbooks - those are likely to charge closer to market value). I find textbooks used by local programs regularly. I used slightly older editions of textbooks all the time with no problems, and they generally cost $1 or less. Then look on amazon, abebooks, and betterworldbooks.com. Also look at craigslist or other local selling sites. Find out what the campus and amazon.com buyback prices are and place an ad offering to buy them for slightly more than that. Also, see if you can find out from current or former students which books are truly essential and if there are any you could skip/prioritize lower. Night and Maus at least should be findable in any halfway decent library, and are short enough that I can't imagine you'd need them for the whole term. Good luck! | Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 3737813 12/27/2012 01:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thank you! I found out a few years about the library trick-this last semester I had $8 in late fees, but totally saved $100+ because I checked the books out :) Incredibly "Night" and "Maus" weren't in any libraries within a few hundred miles (interlibrary loan)--along with most of these. We actually have a decent library, so when it kept popping up "no search results found" it was pretty weird. I LOVE finding books at the thrift stores! Have been keeping my eye out- I found a Med Surg book, tho I won't be taking that for a few semesters. I'll definitely try to see about the pdf versions- never even thought about trying that! I would absolutely love to buy the books online, but at this point my money is a bit too tight---my school allows us to charge the books and pay them off thru the semester in increments, but this semester might be a bit too expensive to take all the classes I wanted...I am still so blessed to be able to go!! Thank you to all who've responded and/or read my post! I like to imagine that even if there wasn't a response, that you've sent good thoughts :) |
