‎"The biggest hit comes from the roll-back of the Bush-era tax rates. Families making between $50,000 and $75,000 would see taxes jump roughly $2,400, according to one non-partisan study. "
AWESOME, because I have the ability to live off of $92.00 less per paycheck! That will fix my teeth, Fran's cavities, and other assorted goodies of necessity. OH and great a 2% increase in SS tax withholding! There goes another $61.00, add to that the $50.00 per pay being withheld each pay to cover the taxes we DID not pay on unemployment in 2010 and now owe (because if we took the tax out of unemployment we would not have had enough left to EAT!and keep the lights on) .....
and now for 2013 we are DOWN $203.00 per pay check! That is $5, 228. SO if I get a job (PLEASE LET Me GET A JOB), then the first 2.6 months of work, roughly, are for making UP the DIFFERENCE in taxes and paying back taxes for the year!

Nice, 2013 should be a blast! Maybe my teeth will fall out and I will get thin from lack of food, inability to chew without teeth and walking everywhere I go since I have no car and if I did could not afford the gas! Happy New Year! I don't even understand the 'alternative min tax thing with average increases of $3700. but it is supposed to affect a new 37 million people, and we all know I can't win the lottery but I will surely be one of the newly affected middle class AMT sufferers.

At this point it is so stupid, we do not have the money to PAY DOWN THE DEBT. IT IS MATHEMATICALLY NOT POSSIBLE. If we stopped paying EVERYTHING except the government workers needed to operate the government and SS and Medicare, we would NOT break even; we would still be in the hole. SO who cares. SIGN a deal, yet another stupid deal, and spend some money we have not printed yet, beg China for more loans we will never pay back, tell the Fed to shove the interest on money we printed and gave to them to lend to us to charge us interest on to take a hike and FIX MY PAYCHECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ah

paycheck? you said I dont have a paycheck remember. So try and get a job hell get 2 then your set.As far as teeth go havent been to a dentist but 4 x in my life, I actually brush my teeth and save alot of money.Try taking the bus,and walking buying shoes is now cheaper than buying gas.Need a place to live, try a hotel with your kids I dont have to pay utilities and cable and wifi are free.Cant afford food then dumpster dive thats what the middle class does in SoCal, need extra luxuries fight with the hobo's over recyclables you can make a pretty penny with that.Sick kids, try home rememdies and send them on to school cuz if you dont they come and arrest you and take your kid.Do not apply for medicaid if you had a disease in another state they try and make the other state responsible for payments which usually means no medicaid for you just do home rememdies for cancer and such it really works till it stops working.Make sure you have a burial plan that is at least 1/2 paid for,try and pay it off before succumbing to the cancer otherwise they throw your body in a box and burn you and then throw away the ashes the family is not allowed to attend and they take the 250 burial from SS.if thats important to you.If you run out of tp during the month go to a restaurant and "borrow" some if it is good enough for Carol Burnetts family its good enough for mine.Pretend Christmas is in summer by then your kids forget and you save alot of cash there. If you need shoes for the kids wait outside a shoe store and dig in the trash you wont believe what people throw away these days. Goodwill has the best clothes except when your neighbor does spring cleaning then it great unless of course they donate it to Goodwill then its too late. Ask the church for food you only have to sit and listen to why a poor sinner like me deserves to go through such hardship cuz God loves you more.Right? My live is good,im alive I love my kids when Im over treatment I can rejoin the workforce.yay! I'll gladly go back to paying paycheck taxes at least we'll eat good.or fairly good.I'll be able to afford a bus pass and go places.I'll be able to save up a little cash for new shoes for my kid, last one to be at home.I will be able to have a small cheap funeral but it sure beats telling my kids that theres no funeral and mom goes in the trash.more likely the toilet.fitting isnt it.I might be able to move out of my cockroach infested hotel and find a nice 1 bdrm apt.See what having a job does for you, so what I have to pay taxes,I'll gladly pay taxes if that means I will have a job. That's life and life right now is precious to me.

Life must be good in the UK if OP is worried about Americans making 200,000 dollars a year being taxed a little more. Let me see.... 200,000 is about 16,500 a month or 4,000 a week or 800 per working day.

Yep! I can see how it must be hard to survive on that!

Absolute Greed vs Absolute Need.

I wonder which is UK helping?

Re: New taxes for Americans coming in 2013
[link to rt.com]

Congress approved US President Barack Obama’s hallmark health care bill nearly three years ago, but only in the coming weeks will Americans finally start to see the real price of the program.

A whole new slew of taxes are expected to be imposed starting January 1 to help pay for the health care plan, and that isn’t sitting pretty with some high-income households, or even the medical industry.

There will be a few new changes in 2013 as far as taxes go, but the one that might affect the most people is one that targets income investments. Individuals making more than $200,000 annually (and married couples making over $250k combined) will be subjected to a 3.8 percent levy on investment income, a maneuver that it expected to earn Uncle Sam an extra $123 billion between the first of the year and 2019.
 Quoting: strikeforce

Taxes on investment income should at the very least equal the rates of those on wage income. Investment (totally unearned & the way the rich actually make their $$ with not a drop of their sweat) income should be taxed at 70% until the national debt goes under $4Trillion.

We really needed single-payer i.e. Medicare for all but the resultant contraction in the Health Care/Insurance industry which is 1/6 of the economy would have been disastrous. So Obamacare/ACA will usher in a brief era when HC Insurance companies will actually have to compete and by law make sure that 85% of their per patient revenue goes to paying for care & not to buying the CEO a yacht. The HC/Insurance cannot make money from actually collecting premiums & paying for care without the ability to refuse payment for almost any reason. Hence they will fold & leave the game to the government.

Re: New taxes for Americans coming in 2013
I remember 6 years ago when the people across the street paid $550,000 for a 40 year old house with 1 bedroom, 1 bath on a small lot sandwiched in between two other run down houses. I thought they were insane (we were renting our small 2 bedroom house at the time). This was right before the housing market burst.

Most families here (including ours) have family members working 2 jobs or more just to make ends meet. Back in the 50's most families in the US could make it on 1 paycheck where the mother stayed home because a house cost a few thousand dollars and a new car a few hundred. Now the car costs more then most houses back then. In fact you could have bought 5 houses or more for the cost of a car in today's market. Taxes and inflation have destroyed this nation along with outsourcing jobs to other countries. The middle class is dead.

We had this one house 10 years ago that was worth $500,000 that was appraised for $205,000 last year. It used to be you could invest in a house and the price would go up. The house we did buy recently at the top of the market also lost value. Financially it would be better to walk away from it then to sell it because of what is still going on with the housing market.

Now they want more taxes and are looking at taking away the tax benefit of interest paid on the house from the loan mortgage. If that happens we will for sure walk from this place and likely let it go into foreclosure. Why keep something that will turn into a tax liability?

If we can sell it I'm ready to sell everything else off too and just live in an RV. I'm weary of this mess the government has created and will not fix because they can't or won't.

We'd be better off just purchasing some land outright and park the RV on it.

Anyway - too many people are just too ignorant about what is coming down the pike that it is next to impossible to wake them up to harsh realities.
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

Paying taxes also helps give a comfy, happy life to government workers, with their platinum pensions, vacation time, holidays, health benefits. So do you work for the government?

I'm not forced to pay -- at least not entirely -- for the greed of shittards like Romney. But I am forced to pay for the greed of government employee unions.

i made those years ago...

not a drop of alcohol for six years and haven't been in a strip club since then either and every visit was at least a c-note so look at the dough i have saved over those years.

cable is included with the condo maintaince and HGAF about a contract one way or the other.

got rid of the home line five years ago and that was 73 a month so there was a savings of let see, 4,300!!! what a great move that was, huh?

I do not have a paycheck, my husband has a paycheck, I am still looking for work. And yeah, I get it, I am lucky we have a job in the family and have a paycheck to worry about the taxes coming out of. But when your just making it on what you get, and just starting to see a way back, and someone tells you your going to get less, it is worrisome and maddening. I understand all the cool ways to save and get by, we made it on very little for a very long time when we were all unemployed and hit by the economic lay-off mess of 2008-2009. Most people are earning less than before the mess, average annual salaries have decreased and now they are going to decrease more. For folks who do not have work, the unemployment benefits are about to end. Those unemployed will need to find even higher paying jobs to make the take home what it would have been before all the tax increases so the 2013 taxes make it hard for everyone all the way around. Just because I am better off with a job than no job does not mean I should be happy about paying increased taxes. Everything I pay for is going up; electricity, food, cost of clothing and transportation, and now my income is going down. This upsets me. It upsets me even more because of why. All this banter and discussion and bickering about the fiscal cliff and spending cuts and who pays more and why and in the end it does not matter, there is no coming back from where we are. Not doing something means it becomes even harder for people to get by, to get ahead and more people need the government for sustenance; Need a government which does not have the means to support the massive amount of those in need it is working so hard to create.

I hope you get back in the workforce and can pay taxes. I really do. Everyday I count myself lucky we have an income, and I do not forget how awful the feeling of not having one was.

Extra taxes and austerity is the new norm and the most fashionable trend for 2013 worldwide as it seems, you're not "cool" and "in" if you don't pay extra taxes these days. I really hope this will be the last extra tax burden for US people, but the only thing for certain here is that the economy won't get any better, it crashed long time ago imo. Austerity policies already in 15+ European countries now including powerhouses like Uk, France since past week, Germany-Netherlands in 2013.
Lets face it, bankzi's have completely taken over.

When was EARNING your SALARY equivalent to GREED? If someone is smart enough to get an education or start a business that allows themselves to reach that level of pay, you better DAMN well believe they deserve it.

It is NOT up to the uninformed, uneducated masses to decide if someone of a greater intelligence and drive to succeed should be forcefully pulled down to "acceptable pay".

I live comfortably and in what I consider luxurary off about $15,000 a year. (I should clarify that I have an average Joe Blow job and am not smooching off the government!!)

So I'm not going to shed a tear for those making $200,000 + getting taxed a little more.

You will be singing a different tune when you get your first check.

There will be no 10% tax bracket anymore.....

This has nothing to do with people making over 200k.

If you make between 50-80k a year your taxes will go up 3500 a year.

Plus there is an Obama Care tax of 61 per month....plus earned income credit tax of 86 per month for social security.

3500/12 = 291 a month

plus 61

plus 86 (43 a week)

= 438 a month.

If you are married and both work then double that....

800 a month will be missing from your checks.

in 2014 there will be an additional 4% taken out for Obama care and it keep going up until you hit 6%. Plus you have to buy insurance or pay the penalty.

Those in Ohio, PA, Virginia, and those other blue Coal states that swung for obama get to pay an additional penalty for coal.

Since coal is evil and will be banned, come 2015 your electric bills go up anywhere from 200-700%.

Those in Ohio will need an additional 500-700 a month just for electricity on top of the almost 1000 a month in new taxes.

But Ohio voted for Obama so I'm sure they are all ok with this. That must be the most profitable well to do state in the nation. Obviously they can afford it.

Same here. I earn $24K, roughly $500/week. Car payments, insurance, medical bills, etc. Can only afford a 5-day vacation every 2 years but that's okay.

On the flip side, the way I [cynically] see it, the poor are not paying their fair share of taxes.

If I lived with my parents and ate their food, I would agree with you.

You obviously don't have children either.

Point is, I work hard for my money, I don't want to give it to a corrupt gov who will waste it on Obama vacations.

and they buy votes with it. for everyone who works for the government, to vote against big, expensive government is a vote against themselves so there are more and more government leeches and again less producers. even government workers who pay taxes are taking taxpayer money and paying some of it back to the government in a never ending cycle of dependence.

name one thing that the government produces on its own? (not you specifically, the question is rhetorical)

Hey davvi cheers I was just trying to point out that 2013 will be a tax-mare worldwide, but it's true that i don't know exactly how the tax system works in the US, read some stories that half of the population isn't paying taxes anymore but dunno if these stories totally reflect the situation tbh.

All these policies are unfair in my book, there should be a limit on how much a govt can tax you, but supreme courts decisions and stuff don't matter for the people who decide these policies anymore, they directly target unfairly the average citizen (yes the ones with a 200k+ annual wage too) with their illegal policies, while they give the multinational corporations a free-ride in the tune of billions and billions every year.

For example the Greek business elite is not paying taxes since like forever here, they get the biggest state subsidies (like a similar GE no tax+subsidy story in US),at the same time they are in the 2nd place of the world-rank in value of deposits in Switzerland lol, while the average Greek moran is now taxed to death to fill a gap that he obviously can't fill. Something is obviously fucked up with the current situation.
