6.4M earthquake being reported in Hawaii islands region - USGS not reporting at the moment.. Is Obama still there?? 12/27/2012

You will find that this is going to be happening more and more as the days go by....your premonition will get more acute!! I have been reading and on the tv the very words I am reading are being said on tv, but in another context. This has happened to me so many times lately. Blessings for the New Year!!!

Coordinates provided give it as being 2800 kilometers west of Big Island Hawaii.

This isn't the first time USGS has hid shit. Or deleted information. It was off shore obviously.

This is not good. That Guy whom used to work for the USGS was very concerned about Hawaii in connection to the Volcano acting wierd and Magma Movement.

Are the buoys even active right now. They have turned them off before in different locations.

Lets not forget the two deaths associated with buoys in our recent past while out working on them.

Ya well 2800 km would have put it on land somwhere then. So if you looked it up where did it happen...?

WTF, now the EMSC website has now taken the earthquake quoted as happening at 10:04 UTC down. No record of it on this link.

You do realize that you guys can use basic Algebra to figure out quake strengths, epicenters, etc., right?

Look at the OP first posting. Location stated, just cut and paste it into Google earth and it shows it as being just north of the Kalaniopuu Basin.

Ok, so having just rechecked the EMSC website, the time of the EQ happening in was infact recorded as being at 09:47 UTC. Still there if you care to check, but not highlighted. Which seems strange, but then again, maybe I'm reading too much into that.

If there was a quake here (Hawaii Islands) it was a very small one as I did not feel it (Oahu). Plus the power is on, last time we felt a quake the power was off all day.

Nothing felt here on Maui either

i live in hawaii and felt nothing here, i am sensitive to earthquakes and usually know in advance of a large one.

It amazes me the way people link to seismologist sites which say "This page provides information for use by seismologists. The information contained is of uncertain quality and should not be reported or linked to from other websites.
The hypocentral coordinates and magnitude estimates are obtained using the data available at the time of the estimate. New data or analyses may change the actual estimates of the earthquake location and magnitude. Earthquake parameters may be derived through automatic analysis, and no further quality check is done by EMSC.
EMSC does not provide any implicit or explicit guarantee. Any risk derived from the improper use of the data is assumed by the user."

There was no 6.1 quake at Hawaii. Some software decided that was just one possible fit for sensor data. Other sensors had a better signal. All the data is combined to give the best location and then seismologists will look to refine it further.

The current actual best fit being a 4.6 at a massive depth of about 500km in the Fiji Region

So no Hawaii 6.4

The only network reporting the location as Hawaii was Montenegro in South-East Europe. On the other side of the planet... Is it any surprise they had such an inaccurate fix?
