I believe the Founding Fathers' intentions with the Second Amendment was three-fold for their era:
#1. To counter act Eurpoean law.
#2. For a militia to be called up when and if needed.
#3. For men to be able to hunt food to feed their families and protection from the Natives.

I don't believe they EVER intended average citizen to own AK-47s and armor-piercing shells.
