An increasing number of Americans expect the government to take care of them from the cradle to the grave, and they expect the government to dig into the pockets of others in order to pay for it all. This philosophy can be very seductive, but what happens when the number of takers eventually outnumbers the number of producers? In 11 different U.S. states today, the number of people on welfare exceeds the number of people with jobs. This list of states includes some of the biggest states in the country: California, New York, Illinois, Ohio, Maine, Kentucky, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, New Mexico and Hawaii. It is interesting to note that seven of those states were won by Barack Obama on election night. In California, there are 139 "takers" for every 100 workers. That is crazy! The American people have become absolutely addicted to government money, and it gets worse with each passing year. If you can believe it, entitlements accounted for 62 percent of all federal spending in fiscal year 2012. It would be one thing if we could afford all of this spending, but unfortunately we simply cannot. We are drowning in debt, and we are stealing more than a hundred million more dollars from future generations with each passing hour. No bank robber in history can match that kind of theft. Yes, we will always need a safety net. There are many people out there that simply cannot take care of themselves. We certainly don't want to see anyone sleeping in the streets or starving to death. [snip] Except that there are in fact plenty of people sleeping in the streets anyway. |

Quoting: 508527 how in the hell did they make the deadbeat list? Yes, it is one of the states in the union with the highest percentage of caucasians. However, there is very little industry and corporate jobs in Maine. Besides ski resorts, there is basically small mom & pop operations, and the requisite Denny's, McDonald's, Wal*mart, Home Depot, et al. It is a common misconception that only blacks and hispanics (minorities) are on welfare. There are millions of destitute, uneducated whites on welfare, in all 50 states in the union. I would think, however, that the percentage of blacks on welfare compared to total number of blacks living in the U.S. would be much higher than for whites. Same goes for hispanics. I would also wager that for J e w i s h people, the number would be high percentage, especially among the Orthodox community. Quoting: K.Kool This a good point. 1 There are those who dont work and get entitlements, 2 Those who DO work and get entitlements, 3 And Those who DO work, and get no entitlements. I wonder if the stats are just comparing 1 to 3 fairly, or if they are really comparing 1+2 to 3, which is a bit skewed. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 218496 $1 dollar a day wages no ss no food stamps .... and you call them communist ? they are wall street slaves ..... wall street sold usa to china ! the enemy within ! Nixon and the Wall St bankers of his time openned the doors for trading and building business in China. So it was not only Wall St but their Presidential Puppets. But don't forget the Majority of the members of the US Senate and the Majority of the members of the US House went right along with Wall St and its International Investment Banks, and The Federal Reserve Bank System, and the the Presidents. And here we are. Go figure. Tell me again how it isn't the US Government at the Central Government level that has not sold out the People of the USA. Spread the blame. Do the People have any recourse at all outside of voting out Congress and the incumbent Presidents every election cycle? No! Instead The People have abdicated their power. |

Okay, well enough. However, there are some 194 Nations on the USA (more or less) where are the democratics about immigrant 'ancestors' as to who are recipients who are Italian, or German, or British, or Mexican, or Argentinan, or Israeli, or Chinese, or India, or Liberia, or South African, or French, or Spanish, or Swedish, etc, etc, etc. No rea reason to decide to measure by race and not also show the demographics on National. Then again where are the measures of Religous persuation, or Political 'cause', or Educational. No, always focuse on Race showing your real agenda and purpose. How about Health? How many dying of Cancer are what percentage of recipients for "Welfare", how many are in fact so disabled they cannot work even ten hours of work for some job? How many are in such terrible health that their IQ is not 250? And even more so, what of the Corporations that take Welfare from the Taxpayers.. these 'welfare' suck trillons of dollars in what is laughably called "subsidies".. its really just another Welfare payout. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 25326483 United States 12/27/2012 07:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sorry, Posted too soon by accident. From Forbes: The taker count is the number of state and local government workers plus the number of people on Medicaid plus 1 for each $100,000 of unfunded pension liabilities. Sources: the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and a study of state worker pensions done in 2009 by two academics, Joshua Rauh and Rovert Novy-Marx. Professor Rauh estimates that the shortage in pension funding is on average a third higher today. [link to www.forbes.com] So "takers" are not simply people on welfare. Forbes is measuring the number of being supported by state governments in some way vs. the number of people earning wages in other sectors. And it looks people people on food stammps are not included in this study. |

Billions spent on Bankers and businesses that keep everyone enslaved. Billions spent on poisoning the air, water, and food supply. Billions spent on creating chemicals they call medication in order to keep us docile and sick. The majority of people on welfare are addicted to TV, poisonous food, prescription drugs, alcohol. They are no longer able to work due to physical or mental health problems from four groups mentioned above who are being paid to destroy human lives. Peace Stop this divide and conquer BS they created in order to keep our eyes off them. Amy |
