It depends on what you're defining as a violent behavior.

Some consider killing animals, even for food, to be violent.

Some consider abortion to be violent.

Some believe the death penalty, even by lethal inection, to be violent.

Some believe that spanking one's child is violent.

Some feel that playing certain video games is violent behavior.

Some think that certain sexual activities, even if consensual between two adults, are violent.

The act of self-preservation and the protection of others and vital property is justified. To sit by and do nothing or to refuse to rise to the level of action necessary to stop the threat is to resign yourself and others to injury, loss, and even death.

Whether that action of self-preservation and protection of others and property is considered "violent" or not is relevant only as a comparison between what needed to be done to stop the threat and was done over and above that necessary action.

Comparison examples: Pulling a trigger requires only minimal effort and only the small muscle set connected to one finger. The simple act of pulling the trigger of a gun is not in and of itself a violent act even if the bullet rushing out at 1000 feet per second and impacting your attacker may be. The act of self-defense can be something that takes only seconds and doesn't have to have anything whatsoever to do with any emotion or intent other than self-preservation. Hacking an attacker to pieces with a machete would be violent and if continued beyond what was needed to stop their attack may be considered criminal.

War is the same. It’s just on a much larger scale. It is never justified to declare war on another nation just to go take what you want. When that war is being waged on you however, it is justified to go to war as a defense of your nation, your allies who are in justified need of defense, and your nation’s vital interests. No, I didn’t just say it was ok to go to war over someone else’s oil either. If it is already yours, it should be defended. If not, you’re just SOL.

We have been living violently way to long. Its time to try a different approach. Why don't we all try to grow our minds up up and change our conscience level to a level of peace and Love and see if that works.

If Self defense is not violence than I guess its ok to attack other countries and kill lots of innocent woman and children and call it our defense department.

When the legitimate power monopoly of the state is threatened violence is the tried and true response. Gotta keep the herd cowed and pliable. Keep them feeling glad it wasn't them. Violence always seems to be ok unless someone is violent towards one self.

Maybe if we all changed our thought process and stopped being brainwashed by the media and entertainment industry then maybe we could put an end to all the violence.

I am one of those people who lives in a world where violence should be a thing of the past. However, my father, being a very wise man and a non-active Marine, taught me how to defend myself in the event that someone else didn't hold my same view. My father was right.

One night I was lugging groceries to my car in the parking lot of a Food Lion in Charlotte, NC and some asshole decided I looked like I needed to be mugged. So he grabs me by my shoulders from behind and demands I hand over my money. So here I am...both hands filled with bags, my keys in one of my bag filled hands and hes got me by the shoulders. Doh! So I elbowed the fuck out of the idiot which surprised him since he thought he had me restrained, then I turned around and kicked him as hard as I could in his soft spot. Do you know the asshole wanted to press charges against me for assault and battery? There was this HUGE black police officer there that got to laughing so hard over this scrawney assed man getting his assed handed to him by a 120lbs woman he simple said, "I'd just shut up while you're ahead, boy. I'm too busy laughing at your stupidity to keep her from kicking your head clean off!"

That was my one and only run in with a criminal or the police, but that Police Officer was absolutely awesome! And in NC... for one black man to call another black man "boy" is like the ultimate insult I was made to understand later. I'm kind of stupid about all of that business.

While the cops were putting the man in the car I heard him say "I might not be able to have kids now!" and that HUGE police officer said, "Well Praise the Lord!"

Yes,
Defending yourself, your property, your family.

It is a Natural Law and right to be able to live and if anyone tries to take that away, they have violates natural law and then as they try to take your right away, you can defend yourself in your right to live.

This is what you have been taught to believe.(Media,hollywood,tv, bullshit history books.)

The story of the man who walked away from violence is never told. WHY?..because its boring.. Guess what...I would rather be bored to death than beaten.

I have seen in my life. When someone walks away from a violent act it seems to go away. But when violence treated with more violence it never goes away.
