I think that was changed to
"Turn the other cheek"
Quoting: jmac I believe when He said "turn the other cheek", He was referring to verbal abuse and insults. We can all endure insults---that is a mark of maturity, but we are not to stand by and allow innocents to be abused, injured or physically harmed. It costs us nothing to turn away from hateful words, but physical harm is another thing. Jesus only allowed them to abuse Him physically, because it was what He came here to do---to suffer as the lamb on the Cross. But when He comes back as described in Revelation,
He returns as a lion, and will slay the beast (the one world ruler) and the kings of the earth and their armies, assembled to make war against Him---they will try to assault Him with the same vengeance they did at His first coming, but HE WILL SLAY THEM!
From Exodus through Revelation we are told to defend ourselves. He told the disciples that if they had no sword, to sell their robe and buy one.
1 Sam 15:13 Every man had a sword and every man picked it up when required.
Judges 5:8 reminds us what happens when a FOOLISH nation chooses to disarm. The people rebelled against God when they put away their weapons of defense. They suffered the consequences.
Psalm 144:1 Over and over God commanded His people to fight.
And we know that when they didn't, they were pillaged, conquered, raped, enslaved and dispersed.
Luke 22:36 and Mathew 26:52- 54 "This is not the RIGHT TIME FOR A FIGHT." We turn the other cheek as long as we can, but defending innocents is always the thing to do.
Rom. 13:3-4 a JUST government executes God's judgment; when a government is not just, then the citizens must defend themselves.
1 Thess. 4:6 The LORD is the avenger in all these things. He is just: Except when His focus was on going to the Cross to accomplish what He came to do, He advocates justice and self defense, time after time throughout the Scriptures.
He is a JUST God; and He is a God of judgment, because of His holy justice.
