Take him to the ER before he gets brain damage.

You may also want to put a cold wash cloth on his head while he is on his way to the ER.

get him into a cold bath asap. Lower his temp, then rush him to the closest doctor. If you take him to the ER with a fever, he will sit there for hours with nothing being done..

Be proactive
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1243271

If he goes by ambulance to the ER they take them right inside to a bed, that's why I said call 911 instead of driving him....but she also said he's not drinking, he is probably dehydrated and needs IV fluid, not that I'm giving medical advice , just suggestions since she asked ....

Bathe him in horse liniment, like this:

and feed him plenty of liquids...help him to pee too :-)

Of course, you could bring him to "The Doctor"

Fever is how the body kills the invading germs. I wouldn't panic at 102.

Give him water, and Vitamin C , D3 and elderberry syrup if you have it. 104 is bad, so keep watch. Don't let it get that high. chances are, that when he awakes, he will be better.

100% agree.

First thing you want to do is take "all" covers off of him, not even a sheet. Covers will only increase the temp. Though a temp he will want to be covered due to chills or feeling cold, but this will increase temp! Give him some med to help bring down the temp. If continues then seek medical attention

Fever reducer, take off blankets and clothing. Wipe down with cool towel and keep one one his forehead. Drink fluid. And if nothing changes in 40 minutes bring to ER

Anyone who says 102 is emergency room material is a fucking waste case. Especially that idiotic doomfield nurse. 102 is when you take fever reducer, not when you start treating him like Tim Robbins in Jacob's Ladder.

No, I am not kidding, and I'm a retired nurse....could be a serious infection and need antibiotics !

If u are a retired nurse why are u asking us? U should also take him to an urgent care center or hospital. Hope he is better soon.:lkj:

Sorry for misunderstanding. I do that alot. I still say if 102, go for the urgent care, clinic, or er. Again, I hope he feels better soon.:lkj:

The retired nurse is answering, not asking.

But there is such a thing called Reyes Syndrome. If one has a fever and this syndrome, aspirin can cause the brain to swell.

I would give tylenol for a fever...aches and pains...aspirin.

I could be wrong, but u should listen to the retired nurse. She would know best.

Fever is part of the immune system fighting the bug. Most bugs require a lower temperature to thrive, the body heat up to kill invaders.

If his fever hits 104 treat with cold bath/compresses on the head to keep the brain case safe. If it goes above 104F take him to hospital.

Sleep is also another good thing, let him sleep.

Re: my husband has 102 temp- what should i do
The usual criteria for a fever that needs medical attention soon is any fever that goes over 104 degrees F (105 degrees F is usually considered the heat-stroke level, where brain damage can occur) or any fever that stays above 102 degrees F for more than a day.

102.5 degrees F isn't too bad if it is "breaking", meaning that it goes up for a few hours and then you break out sweating and it comes back down for a while. You can go several days like that without a problem, as long as you are still getting plenty of rest and fluids.

You know a lot already, will add "fluffing". Getting the heat to the feet. If you "pet the cat in small alternating flowing pattern about four inches above his body, this will take the heat to his feet where it is less invasive to his body. Really works. Simple Reiki

Lots of fluids, lots of rest.......

Also,

100,000 of Vit. A daily for 3 days

After 3 days, switch over to Vit. D3 - 150,000 IU daily for 7 days.

Then back down to 10,000 IU daily until summer.

Don't give any fever reducers (tylenol), except if he is in pain as this reduce the fever & prolong the illness. The body is producing a fever in order to fight a bug.

You need to call your doctor or take him to the ER. I had 102.5 and was feeling pretty poorly. They gave me either Tylenol or Advil. Also, they gave me Z-Pack (Zithromax)which really helped. I was admitted to the hospital overnight and by the next morning they released me.
It sounds like influenza, but you've gotta watch out for pneumonia. Gen'l Schwartzkopf just died today from complications from pneumonia. Also had a relative with double pneu. and the docs thought she was going to die, but she didn't.

I'm sorry, but could you please enlighten us on where you got this wealth of medical knowledge? Are you a doctor? Nurse Practitioner? RN? LPN? Nurse's aid? EMT? Tech? Phlebotomist? Admittance clerk?

Thanks.
