So many bitching about how little they could give their kids for Xmas | |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 14296678 12/28/2012 12:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i buy my kids sock/underwear/shoes/necessities all year. i think they'd accept getting more of that for christmas..but would secretly be disapointed. in saying that i dont have alot of money. i bought second hand stuff this year for kid (2 year old daughter) for $30 i picked up a toy pram, 2 teddies, toy make up kit, toy oven, toy shopping trolley, tea set & toy cot & some books...all in great nick!! i just had to hunt around for a bit till i found a good bargain. $30 didnt bite me too much & SHE loves them!....so cute seeing her wheel those teddies around in that pram, play make believe with the tea set & she even climbs in the toy cot and pretends to go to sleep, she loves me reading her the stories. lovely christmas! completely inexpensive. i feel blessed! bit judgey there OP...shame on you |
| a grandma User ID: 19554329 12/28/2012 12:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i don't understand why giving beloved children who are very good kids wonderful christmas gifts makes them into dweebs or insensitive spoiled brats. My Grandkids got new playballs, christmas pajamas, slippers, silly putty, klik-klaks, board games, holiday candy, stuffed animals, coloring books, crayons, art kits (whirly-wheel, bendaroos, fuzzoodles, paper airplanes) felt, googly eyes, chenille sticks, feathers, pompoms, glue) and also winter boots and sweaters, warm funny hats, walkie-talkies, and scooters - wrapped all fancy. It didn't cost that much, the kids love their presents and today's been Day 3 of good winter vacation playtime with snow outside; pancakes and popcorn inside. I'm sympathetic to anyone who thinks they can't afford to give anything but the bare necessities to their children this year ... yet respectfully say that most likely "Toys For Tots" and similar programs, or churches, or family/friends you know - would be more than happy to help give a Merrier Christmas a bit belated to you, if you want, and you just ask. That's the true spirit of Christmas, after all. Ask, and Thou Shalt Receive. You Really Will! Cheer Up, and God Bless You! |

No toys, no trinkets. Did they care? NOPE! We're teaching our children to materialistic little bastards! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22774583 Stop bitching and complaining about how little your kids got for Christmas and teach them to appreciate not only the reason for the season, but teach them to appreciate what they have and to see how fortunate they are for what they do have and what they get. My middle child opened a gift of underwear, and his big brother said "did I get underwear to??" I am so proud of my kids for not really giving a crap about the gifts, but they cared about the meaning of the holiday and they appreciate what they have. |

I'm not hanging my head in shame either. They got all the necessities and then some. I'm not about to be ashamed because I can afford nice things for my children, or because I think kids should be kids and should have toys to play with..when I can afford to buy them for my children. Get off your high horse bitch. Stop chastising people that provide more for their children. We don't all believe that they should only get panties and socks because you are pissed at the world and can't afford shit. And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it." Amen. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22774583 Here's a response. Kids are kids only once....and they only believe in Santa for a short time. Let them enjoy being kids for a while...and that includes getting toys and being able to play / learn from them. There is plenty of time later on to buy them clothes. You are mentally damaging those kids. You are the opposite extreme of those who spoil them with commercialism. Neither extreme is good. Wise up....you are doing them no favors. ![]() Says the rich parent who I used to beat up as a kid. YOU are doing your own offsping the wrongdoing. Teach them to use what they have rather than pray to a fat bastard for crap they don't need. Buy your kids ipods and iphones and watch them wait tables and flip burgers while mine go to ivy league schools on scholarships Who the fuck said anything about ipods and iphones? I believe he said "toys". Don't think the jab about being the "rich parent" you beat up as a kid went unnoticed. Your attitude towards those that are better off than you is apparent. You've got issues. Oh, your kids can go to school on scholarship, my kids schooling will be paid for by ME. Get a job, mooch. And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. | Anonymous Coward User ID: 28837935 12/28/2012 01:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Geez...it's not so hard to make your kids some toys, for goodness sake. My children appreciate things like socks, pjs and dishware, too... but they like to get some fun things! If you are really broke, go to a thrift shop because you can buy used clothes and toys and books or all of the above. You can make things from scratch. I made a sock monkey, a magnetic fishing game, some sewing cards from an old book, gingerbread and peppermint playdough, lots of juggling beanbags from old scrap fabric and old clothes --- my worst bits and pieces of fabric turned into lovely gifts. You can make blocks from old trees and rag dolls and pencil/crayon totes...and that's just off the top of my head. Last year, I made my kids Robin hood outfits! At the very least, get kids some crayons, scissors, glue, tape and paper so they can be creative... But, there is really no excuse to not give your kids toys. If you are truly broke, start working on projects and looking for gently used things from thrift shops for next year now and you will have a fine Christmas. Peace. |

All of GLP must be taken with a grain of salt....and a dose of fresh air from the world around us. That said, there is much more to learn from here and other places on the web than wasting time looking at TV. TV has become a VAST wasteland of GARBAGE. For the record too.....never watched Fringe....never will. Just essentially more cops vs bad guys stuff. It is about parallel universes(probably much more(multiverses), haven't watched current season, yet), and how one can not exist without the other. That, and they both have an equally hot Olivia in them..one being a more care-free redhead, other a more pragmatic blond(equally gorgeous)..true they are both 'cops' though, sorta...yeah kinda hopin' this season brings about a raven haired Olivia what were we talking about again??? |

Quoting: Tuko Commercialism has destroyed what the celebration is about. It's not about Santa, elves, snowmen, trees. presents, etc. It's about the birth of Jesus Christ. Nothing else. Bullshit. The Winter Solstice had nothing to do with Christ, it is something which has been celebrated since neolithic times. Christmas' direct predecessor, Saturnalia, was the Roman celebration of the winter solstice. If you want a holiday solely about Christ, I suggest you create one of your own instead of usurping another, and it certainly shouldn't be during the winter. You must be like Methusala's retarded cousin for still comparing the two holidays that were merged back when the wheel was invented |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14296678 My kids have never expressed displeasure with getting something secondhand as a present. I got my 9 year old a bunch of books for $0.25 each at a thrift store. He's already read some of them multiple times since Christmas, and I think he's as happy with that as with any of the bigger/newer presents we got him. My 6 year old loves her secondhand American Girls doll that I got off freecycle a few years ago, along with a set of the books that I found for $5 on Amazon. Inexpensive craft kits are keeping them both quite happy. If we'd been tighter on cash, we totally could have made something that would have been equally engrossing for free or very inexpensive. And there's no way a 2 year old is going to notice or care if their toys are new in package or not. This is despite the fact that they received a bunch of newer, more expensive stuff too. The secondhand stuff seems appreciated at least as much. Keep going with the secondhand presents! Don't set the expectation that presents have to be brand-new, and holidays will be easier to manage for the rest of your life, regardless of your financial situation! |
