I don't think it's so much about the gifts as it is in comparing this year to years past.

Lots of people I'm sure have had less to spend on gifts with the rise in fuel and groceries. I'm sure there are others who've had to deal with job losses/pay cuts and are even struggling just to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.

As far as the kids go, try to think back when you went to school! Don't you remember after Christmas break how everyone was all excited and sharing stories with everyone about the gifts they received? Now, your kids will get to show off their new socks and underwear while other classmates will be bragging about the new Xbox system and games they got from their parents.

But who knows? Maybe there won't be that many kids in school this year receiving fancy gifts from their parents.

I know what you mean though. Christmas is a LOT more than just presents, and it is the parents' responsibility to pass that message on to their kids.
