The flashing is called atmospheric seeing, and it is more while the stars are on the horizon. Quoting: TRIXER Thank you! So this could just be a regular star flashing because it is picking up refraction from the gasses in our atmosphere? It's still flashing more than any star I have ever seen! GG. |

It's very bright in the night sky. :) Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18526071 I think it's aldabaren star located in the Taurus constellation It is supposed to be near the moon and Jupiter. It kinda makes me laugh that there is either so much light pollution, so much smog or sky cover that people in Los Angeles go large portions of their lives without really seeing the sky. Sirius has been blinking blue red and white for billions of years. Airplanes routed from the south from offshore to Seal Beach VOR can appear to stay in one location for what seems like an unusual amount of time because they are descending as they get closer, which makes them appear to maintain the same apparent position, especially if you are in-line with the approach path. This pattern is used for John Wayne, Long Beach and LAX. This would apply for a light that appears to stay in the same location for 8-10 minutes, not for 30 minutes, if it truly was 30 minutes. I filmed it 2 night flashing away, Im just converting it u can't see it close up but you can see the flashing as I have used a tripod. This thing is NOT a STAR I have been watching this thing in my telescope from 9pm til 10ish it appears after sunset and gets more intense as it turns from dusk to night. You can see it flashing red and blue without the telescope. When I zoom in I can only describe it as a HUGE GERM like im looking in a microscope, its moving and bubbling and you can see it morph and change shape its moving around. It looks like a cell or octopus without tentacles its really freaky. I really cant decide if it is a planet or ufo or star or what but it sure as hell dont look like the other stars. Its not jupiter or saturn it moves slower then the rotation also. Im waiting to get a better lens or adapter to take pics Im a photographer I just sold my zoom to get the telescope eee haha typical im such a clown sometimes. This has freaked me out!! ![]() |
