Ephesians 2:8-10 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. |

The driver would have to take the time to line cars up to holes in rail and people would trample each other trying to get on the train. If you've ever seen the subway during rush hour you would know why. It's been done in newer stations in London with big perspex screens. IIRC the subway cars automatically line up with the gaps, which have automatic doors in them. |

I lived there for a long time. I left when my daughter was born. I realized that every time I took the subway I was fearful of being pushed, fearful of being mugged again, fearful of crazy /mean people. Motherhood had put protection of my baby and self-protection into overdrive. I moved. phew. just too many crazy/mean/predator people in one place. I think the railings are a great idea. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 24410859 United States 12/28/2012 11:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I suppose there would be problems/injuries that could occur from that too, though. I'm sure Bloomberg is already thinking about some ridiculous "solution" to the issue by restricting liberties for NYC-dwellers. I lost most respect for him as a politician after I read he was thinking of trying to institute a policy in steak restaurants where people could only order a small piece of meat, and there would be workers in the restaurant whose sole job was to watch you chew your steak to make sure it was chewed enough times so you would not choke. That, and instituting mandatory goggles in sushi restaurants so that patrons would not "accidentally" poke out another person's eye with their chopsticks while eating. It could have been a joke, but I read it in several places along with ideas for a soda ban, so I'd tend to think it might have some basis in reality. I was always a fellow pillar-holder or wall leaner in the subways. I only ventured out to look down the tunnels if nobody was around. You really don't have to do that, anyway. You can usually feel the air being stirred and a slight breeze before the train comes, as it's heading down the tunnel toward the station. Prayers to the family of the victim, and I hope whoever did this gets some inpatient lifelong treatment, along with lockdown. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 19887072 United States 12/28/2012 12:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Its such an obvious way to get rid of city trash you have to wonder why ... it doesn't happen to hundreds or thousands a day. Quoting: Mr. Toppit City 'trash'? Who the fuck are you, sunshine? Rural 'trash'? Suburban 'trash'? How the fuck do you know the man killed wasn't a decent guy? You don't, so shut the fuck up. Asshole. ====================== NYC [just the city alone] has 8+ million people. Metro NY has 20 million? The MTA is one of the largest and most heavily used transit systems ON EARTH, not just the U.S. MILLIONS of people use it a day. And it operates 24/7/365. Surprising stuff like this doesn't happen every day, but it doesn't. HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE KILLED IN CARS, SUVs, TRUCKS yesterday by crazy drivers and road rage? The shit I see on the road EVERYDAY scares me a lot more than anytime I ride the subway or commuter rail trains. Being in a vehicle, driving on the highways and streets is probably the most dangerous situation to be in, in the U.S. and other similar countries. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27505470 Norway 12/28/2012 12:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I never, ever stand near the platform when I am waiting for the train. I lean against the wall so no one can come up behind me. Quoting: geminilion It kills me when I see folks right on the edge of the platform peering down the tunnel looking for the train..WTF? Yep, me too. I am ALWAYS aware of the people around me and stay as far away from the platform as possible. At some stations there is no wall due to uptown and downtown trains being on either side. In that case I try to stay behind a pillar or in the middle between the two sides, which you can be shoved off easily from that position. I mainly look for people acting weird. What really gets me is once in a while I'll see a mother with a young child standing at the edge. Despite the libs thinking psychos have rights over the rest of us, we have to start putting crazy people away - BEFORE they do something bad. Your behavioural fear of possibility of being pushed in front of train each time you travel (form of paranoia) can be considered as mental disorder. Thus you are psycho and should be locked. |

Luckily, a man behind me grabbed me back. I thanked him and he said "I didn't do it for you; we would have been here another 3 freaking hours". Gotta love NY! |

Your behavioural fear of possibility of being pushed in front of train each time you travel (form of paranoia) can be considered as mental disorder. Thus you are psycho and should be locked. Please. That's not 'paranoia', it's COMMONSENSE. If you lived in a place like NY or other big urban areas it becomes simply second nature to be aware of your surroundings and people around you, not in a paranoid sense, just aware. You go around being oblivious to potential threats, you're asking for trouble. I'm a perfectly calm and even laid back person, certainly not paranoid, but not to the point of being oblivious to my surroundings and potential threats. |

MOBS of people, and not just in NY but everywhere, can behave very dangerously and erratic. Crosses all socioeconomic lines, too. See what happens when you're going against a herd of middle class 'professionals' trying to catch their train home. They behave like savages. |
