Re: From 0ºF to 37ºF overnight. WTF?
can someone explain me how is practical life when temperature goes -20C, -30C

what kind of insulation you have in your home? windows? heating? temperature and humidity in your house?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31028611

To be hones, I do not know what insulation is used. Basic PVC windows and probably decent insulation for the newer house, a lot of older apartment buildings don't have this.
We have central heating, some use their own boilers and furnaces to heat their houses.
The room temperature should be around 22C. The central heating gets turned on only when the average temperature outside is around +5C, so it might be average 7C for a while and no heating - your home can get a bit cold in these periods, but it lasts only a 2-3 weeks. So if it is cold in your house, you wear socks and warm clothing. I am wearing thick, knitted wool socks right now.
If you have a decent coat, decent boots, a sweater, scarf, thick gloves and a hat, you will not experience much discomfort while being outside at -20 for short periods of time, assuming you are not used to a much warmer weather. It gets bad when there is wind. When windy the -20C might seem like -30... Your face hurts from the cold wind, so I cover up with a scarf. I hate when it is windy and avoid going outside.
It becomes very slippery in spring when the snow begins to melt, as it might be around +3C and then -2C and the melted snow would freeze, with water on top of it - very dangerous, you walk like penguin in this weather. This actually happened on the 25th.

thanks

since I was also "fighting" such situation in a milder climate (over there the temp can go to -17, but I had quite a problem with temp like -5 -7..) I was wondering how the hell could you survive at -30...especially if you do not have efficient and cheap heating and not good insulation

We canadians were built for weather temperatures like this... -20 is nothing for a canadian winter... I've seen as low as -47c (-53c with the windchill)

You can get used to anything and this is normal to us, like your weather is normal to you. I have problems with hot weather - anywhere above +26 I do not like. But I spent few months in India and got used to a lot higher temperatures, was struggling at first. :)

-47C is a pretty scary temperature. Lowest I have seen is -40C. Did not go out that day. But many Latvians do cut a hole in the ice and go swiming in it. lol.:)
