Your US drivers license is good in the UK and all of Europe.
It has always been that way.
If you are becoming a resident on an extended visa you have 6 months to take the written test and get a UK license.

You need the permit, which requires proof of a license in your home nation.

The US drivers license should not be valid in the UK because driving is so much different. Firstly the car controls are different. They have extra levers and the steering wheel is on the other side, which means that opposite hands are used for operating the levers.

It would be difficult getting used to driving on the wrong side of the road.

Dont drive on the wrong side it causes accidents.

It's easy just remember as the driver you should be in the middle of the road not the edge (unless you are driving a Lhd car in the uk)

Also other people on the road tends to guide you as to which side you should be on.

The real problem is road rules. E.g. No filtering when on red in uk and understanding roundabouts which as I understand it are next to nine existant in the us

dont forget also, that in the uk most cars are manual drive rather than automatic, and there is a different licence for both. Or, i should pre-empt by saying there may be, i dont drive so not fully sure, any other brit please comment.

Those Polish drivers I keep reading about probably do not have the lever problem, but they do drive on the other side of the road and do not seem to be able to read international road signs.

They have 3 foot pedals, not 2 and a gear shift lever that needs constant operation to drive properly. The gear shift lever is operated by the left hand, not the right as it would be if they had such things in the US.

If you have a license for a manual you can also drive an automatic, but not vice versa.

US has no different DL. The female driver often has a problem with this

Our roads have these things called 'corners' where you will have to make a turn in your RV/Hummer/Cadillac/Escalade.

Yes I agree. Canadians too should have to prove they can drive safely on British roads with these more complex machines.

same has you can drive with British licence in America, think flydrives, know of a few roudabouts in Florida that can cause chaos , didnt help that one had a mailbox in the middle lol
