Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 28505073 United Kingdom 12/28/2012 10:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | dude, if you're a bartender... you're going to MAKE BANKE on new years. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28994274 quit bitching and make some money. if not, they'll find someone else who wants to make money. How will I? You don't understand the context of my situation, sure I'll make maybe £60 or so, but spending the evening with my friends and girlfriends, well, you can't put a price on that. Money has very little worth to me, I get what I can to get by, but its not my main concern. And I'm also not bitching, I work my absolute ass off where I work, its an extremely demanding job, and I work ludicrously, they know that, yet they don't appreciate it, they know if I quit this job they'd be screwed, they -need- me. I've worked here about 5 or 6 months now. |

Get to work and shut the fuck up you prick. Actually, if you must know they hired me out of desperation, then I proved a good asset to the staff and they kept me, I'm the only male bar tender there, because the manager is a complete sexist pig, who hires staff on the basis he'll try and hit on them and hopefully get something out of it. Most male employee's are let go after a week or two, a month tops. OR they quit because of the horrific working conditions, the hours I do, for the pay I get, with the abuse I get, probably isn't worth it. And quite frankly I would like to quit but how would that look on future job applications "Quit my last job because my manager was an ass hole" No, thats not going to happen. By all means, I am an extremely patient and tolerant person, and I can put up with the working conditions, hence why I'm here, I'm not complaining about the job, I'm complaining about working on New Years Eve, I deserve one fucking holiday this year after working practically all of them. Go flame somewhere else you pathetic excuse of a keyboard warrior. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 28505073 United Kingdom 12/28/2012 11:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | if you don't care about the money, or the job, then why waste time there Quoting: ...333... look i don't want you to go and quit your job, but i know what i would do, being with friends means more then cash I must have worded something wrong, of course I care for money, its just not my main priority. I like the job, times like these I am very appreciative of the job, the people I work with are lovely, but my manager can be an absolute beast at times. I just want New Years Eve off to spend with my friends and girlfriend. I think its more than fair considering the amount I've worked and done for them this year. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 28505073 United Kingdom 12/28/2012 01:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There is a lot of misconception in this thread so it seems. I am not bitching, nor complaining, or whining. I'm perfectly fine with working New Years, I'm not disputing that. I'm just asking how I should approach asking for it off, because preferably I'd rather see my friends and have a nice night out. I'm quite bad in the social context of asking for things like this, especially in the workplace, I get nervous and awkward and give in too easily. Therefore I am asking for suggestions. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 28505073 United Kingdom 12/28/2012 06:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nobody is MAKING you do anything!! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10372663 If you don't want to work then quit! I'm sure they can find people more than willing to work on holidays! I'm wondering how you've made it this far in life?!!!! BTW a week IS advanced notice so what are you bitching about? Are you an idiot? I'm assuming you're probably still in school with no experience in the field of work, pardon my ignorance. A months notice is minimum for a general shift bar tending, it helps both the staff and managers know what's going on and when. Any shifts given or taken within the month you can phone the staff member up and inform them or ask them to come in, if they're free and willing, well you get an extra shift and nights pay, which is good. If you can't you tell them, and nothing is said about it. Now, giving holiday shifts, you don't just give the staff member the shift, you generally tend to ask them first. What if I had booked for me and my girlfriend to stay in a hotel down London for £80, club tickets for £30 and a taxi from said club to hotel for £20, altogether that gives me £130 spent at the beginning of December due to having to book in advance incase of hotel rooms or club tickets running out due to high sales. Now, if I had been given this shift at the end of November, I wouldn't have this problem, because I KNOW I'M WORKING. If he gives me the shift a week before, I'm in a bit of a pickle, aren't I? £130 spent, and I go to work to earn £60.. You do the Math. Don't talk shit you don't know kid. |
