On Art Bell one night a guy called in who claimed to have shot not one but two Bigfoots in some real thick brush on the Oregon coast.

Story he gave was the incident took place just a year or two after he got back from Vietnam. He was night hunting for raccoon with a fellow vet and saw this large creature and just shot it, but it was able to run off. He shot it with a .308. What Art missed right there was an opportunity to ask a perfectly valid question: "Why were you carrying a .308 on a coon hunt?"

I knew the answer because I knew guys like that. They would poach a bear and sell body parts. At that time you could legally sell the gall bladder and it was worth some decent bux. (I never did know exactly how much - didn't care and regarded it as morally reprehensible myself.)

Anyway, the two guys knew the creature was hit hard and went back in the morning to follow the blood trail. Tracked it into a very bad thicket - so bad they had to crawl on hands and knees - and in the process came face to face with a very live Sasquatch female - and killed her. The male was just behind her a couple more yards dead.

They talked it over and decided to bury the pair and keep their mouths shut which they did for something like 20-25 years. So, this guy told Art Bell he would take Art to the burial site and dig up the bones. Art took the information off-air.

I was still working those days and didn't listen to many episodes except a few re-runs - Friday night or Saturday night - so I never heard any more what happened. Maybe the guy backed out - Personally I believed the story because the guy didn't seem to be selling anything PLUS seemed genuinely regretful the incident had ever happened.

Somebody with direct access to the old archives or to Art Bell - perhaps shortwave radio would need to take it from here.
