Not only Iceland but the Faeroes and Western Scotland going to be hit by this same storm system. Did you not have an epic storm as recently as September when thousands of sheep were buried? I was just reading in the Iceland Review that they are compensating the farmers and that the public are giving donations as well. I know it's winter and it's Iceland but it seems odd. More evidence of that polar vortex ocurring also in Russia and Asia. And in Canada too.Thanks and will do. Yea we had a storm in September but this is gona be much worse and so far there have been 7 avalanches so far most on the roads but there are warnings for all towns in west fjords and up north. CH [link to geography.about.com] Yea its a strange combination, and all livestock has been taken care of after the storm in September so they are save and the people are getting prepared We have to go back to January 16. 1995 to find a comparable weather storm. Pressure lines have often been equally tight across the country and in the notorious weather that caused a huge avalanche fjords. Weather personnel on Hveravellir could not get out to read the meters.
