Re: Let's start a GLP women's group thread.. support, advice, etc. Post here please
Not to change the subject, but I thought I'd jump into the thread with my own issue that has always made me feel like I didn't belong no matter what group of women I was hanging out with.

I can't have children, and you would be surprised how many conversations that women of my age (early 50s) have about their kids, grand kids, etc. I feel so separate from other women. I can't tell you how many weddings, wedding showers and baby showers I had to go to last year for my friends' adult children. Nobody seems to understand how it feels when I go to all of these things, knowing that it will never be my turn to be the beaming mother of the bride or grandmother. I am a step grandmother to 3 lovely children, but they already have 2 sets of "real" grandparents and I am not really treated like anyone that counts for anything.

Sorry for that long post. I just had to vent a little after the holidays, I guess. Thanks for listening. hf
 Quoting: oh_yikes

I envy you, if I could have a "do over" I would skip the kid thing. I can understand how you feel around other women with kids dominating the topic. The holidays make it worse. I hate Christmas LOL
PS I bet you are not as grey as mothers. LOL
The stress of kids and grandkids makes you age faster. And they break everything, and no matter how old they get they want / need all your money, and they always need help fixing or cleaning and all that. Yep I envy you.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23969821

LOL...some people may read that and think it sounds harsh, but I totally get it. It's not that I ever wanted children....I never really connected with the whole maternal thing, which is what made it even harder when I was in a roomful of women gushing over grandchildren. I wish you could have a "do over" too, AC. I like the free time and solitude it affords me, but it really makes it hard for me to make friends with or relate to other women.
 Quoting: oh_yikes

No kids here either, entirely by choice.

The wonderful thing now is that while I find I have little in common with women my age (50s), I have a whole lot of interests in common with guys of all ages.

Classic cars, the sciences (such as meteorology), military history, excercise and fitness.

And as a postmenopausal woman the whole gender tension dynamic is simply evaporated. I get to interact with guys of all ages not as a potential partner, but simply as a strong, healthy human being who is simply of the other gender -- and often of another generation.

(underlined emphasis in above quote added for clarity of discussion)

One simply does not "have" to accept social invitations of any kind. Ever. Period.

One simply has "other plans".

There is no good reason to go to any social event "for" someone else if it is going to put you into a miserable situation.

Lift yourself free!

I simply decline all of these female/ family/ baby orientated events with a simple "no thank you".

There is great freedom and self-respect on the other side of the equation once you get into the mindset of 'no, that is not for me, so I am not going there' and stand your ground on it.

Far from getting pissed off, or thinking ill of me for it, the people who do drag themselves through all that often admit that they envy me and wish they had the intestinal fortitude to 'just say no'.

Nobody can free you from putting yourself through fruitless misery... but YOU.

So, my nails are getting long again after a nailbiting binge brought on by the Doomers on this web site.
Has anyone tried the grey colors by Revlon??
They were on sale at CVS and I got 2 colors for .99 each.
I like them.

A trick I used was to wear rings and bracelets. I don't know about you, but I just can't bite my nails when I have jewelry on.
What good is jewelry if your nails are disgusting.

Just a tip.grinningcoffee4

This year I resolve to share my feelings, not hold in resentment, make room for myself, and buy myself something nice. I will remember each day that I am important. There is nothing that anyone will say or do to me that will make me feel like less of a person. I will remember to laugh, and to be happy, because I want to be. I will not allow negativity to rule my life. I won't let someone's words get me down. I will always remember this is MY LIFE. I am in complete control of it. coffee4

Woman change everything in this world....
We start revolutions and we than end them
We love and nurture
We teach with patience and tolerance
We raise the children
We protect and defend
We are strong beyond imagination
We are soft and breakable
We are the embodiment of the divine feminine, The goddess
We empower men
We surrender to men for their own sense of manhood
And we make sandwiches

Do we aspire to be ladies or gentlewomen?

Personally I much prefer the concept of gentlewoman. It is full and robust, it is about character and integrity -- not about manners or status.

A gentlewoman can pretty much handle whatever is in front of her to get done, but a lady might choose to rely upon others.

What say the women of GLP?

Yep I had one and my dog chewed it up! I paid like $250 bucks for it. As for it being a good product, meh I think it is over rated for the money. I am blonde and fair skinned so don't have much hair and it barely worked for me. Can't imagine how it would work for someone with darker, heavier hair. And it smells of nasty singed hair when you do it! They even suggest to light a candle to offset the smell in the instruction booklet.

I was wishing someone would start a thread where I could get some advice about menopause. It is more severe than I expected.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4113170

That is an excellent topic for discussion here.

I am running out of time this morning, as I have to head off to work ( in an extremely male-traditional profession ) but I'll check back here later to discuss.

Menopause does not need to be unhealthful or distressing.

In fact, for me, it has been the greatest gift ever!

Well, using your terminology, I think I started out a lady, but then had to become a gentlewoman when I separated and then divorced. I didn't even use to pump my own gas! In fact, the first time I ever had to even take my car myself to get the oil changed I was like 40. Crazy, right? Now I'm super independent, do everything myself, my way, on my terms and wouldn't change a thing. Well, it would be nice to have a man to cut the grass and take out the trash LOL but I get it done! All this independence has really helped me raise more self-sufficient daughters as well.

I am a gentlewoman , took me awhile tho. I think it started around mid forties. I just couldn't do the same ole stuff. Life became less drama filled and more purposeful. I became more compassionate and kind.
I really like this term...gentlewoman

I found one that is ok. I get real sick and he really does do his best, but very rarely as good as I do. We been together for 5years now and we never fight and are best friends. Both virgo's.
But......I bought myself an old motorhome that I am trying to restore. When it's done I will park it up the back and I will live in that. My own spotlessly clean home. He is having a little trouble with me moving out of the house, but the dirt and untidiness drives me crazy and I am too ill at times to fix it.
As much as we love each other, I just can't bear it.
I know I will be here cleaning his house but I will have my own spot. I like my own space.
