Last night I had an opossum visitor to my back porch however when they play dead they not only look dead they smell as if they are dead and in that state are incredibly easy to catch.
I do suspect that the skins might not be a suitable hat however warm their pelt might be as the truth be told they stink. Having said that I am the first to feed opossum slices of apples or other fruit and find them quite docile. :opossum:
Quoting: SilverPatriot We have semi-tame possums come around, and I too feed them. They are incredibly fascinating. Be careful, however, hand feeding them. One mistook my finger for a raisin, and bit down breaking the skin. Infection took a while to heal. They do not carry rabies. Quoting: goodmockingbird If the same opossum comes by nightly they will tame quickly and you are correct rabies is extremely rare and if I remember correctly, it was due to the fact their temperatures being normally higher than other mammals. They also have the most teeth of any mammal and are our only marsupial and while most believe them to be ugly I find them beautiful and interesting and excellent tree climbers.
